Carpet moths pest control not worked

Hi,
Has anyone else had issues with chemical spraying of carpet moths not working? We've had both full house heat treatment and 2 rounds of cimetrol super chemical spray for clothes moths by professional pest control and they are still in our house. The number of moths don't even seem reduced.

It's obviously really expensive and gutting. We've also fully cleared and cleaned the house and loft etc.

Is this normal to fail? Or have we used a bad company who haven't administered it correctly?

Worth adding, we pulled up all the carpets and threw them out last year as they seemed to be eating the carpets. Clothes washed at 60 degrees etc. No signs of larvae, but they must be somewhere

Wool carpets. If you have them, get rid of them, it’s the only way it worked.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 16/06/2025 19:03

You need the wasps. The tiny little wasps that kill the moths.

shortsharp · 16/06/2025 19:04

I’d be tearing them up and putting down wooden floors (unless they can eat through them too)

Have you got wool loft insulation?

Wotsonmyceiling · 16/06/2025 19:20

Carpet moths are everywhere these days.
Just don't have wool carpets.
Then forget about them.
They're not harmful in any other way.

allamberedover · 16/06/2025 19:29

The OP said they pulled up and disposed of the carpet.

Only if you can afford to keep replacing your clothes every time they get into your wardrobes.

@BoobsOnTheMoon We tried the wasps last year. They didn't work for us. Bought quite a lot too and did a few rounds. Have you had success with them?

We pulled all the carpets up last year. Been living with the unfinished floorboards since

We have just discovered them in our spare mattress they has wool in it. I couldn’t believe it but it has loads off of eggs around the top seam and edging.

Schweden · 16/06/2025 22:19

There has to be something still in the house for them to be breeding in and feeding on. Natural fibre somewhere. If you have removed loft insulation, is there any between floors, under the boards?

I am dealing with severe moth problems in my parents house. I am using the Pest Expert bombs linked above every couple of weeks, sticky traps all over the place. Vacuuming as often as I can (and emptying the bag!). Repellent on wardrobes. And spraying round the edges of rooms - with this I literally see the larvae squirming. Ideally I would empty the place out, but mum is in her 80s and can't face the upheaval, so I am just trying to keep it to a tolerable level.

roses2 · 21/06/2025 11:12

I bought the diamanteous earth posted above for £10 and the sticky traps.

Last week I was seeing 5 moths a day in the bedroom congregating around the light.

after sprinkling the powder around the skirting and putting the sticky trap in a toilet tube in the wardrobe I’ve seen no moths this week around the light and caught one on the sticky trap.

I used the Pest Expert smoke bombs last year but this didn’t seem to get to the root cause of wherever they are hiding.

TheAmusedQuail · 21/06/2025 11:14

These work. They're to put in drawers really. BUT I also use them on my carpets. Just put them in the areas affected.

I've used them twice and they always work.
