Prevent someone viewing my house

Littlemouse123 · 15/06/2025 21:54

The same person has viewed my house twice. First time it was they were interested in a private sale. I found out they hadn't gone ahead as they couldn't afford the property. The second time they went to the estate agents saying my house was too expensive and gave a ridiculous offer. I'm in the process of swapping estate agents. Can I decline a viewing by this person given that he's not serious?

The new EA will.need to.know their name as a commission would be due to.the previous agent on sale...I think...Read your contract.

So I guess he will be happy you don't want to accommodate any future offers from them!

What if they came back with asking price offer, no further viewing? Its always possible.

Littletreefrog · 15/06/2025 21:58

Yes just tell the estate agent their name and say you won't accept any viewings from them.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 15/06/2025 21:58

Well it’s your house so I think you’re entitled to refuse entry to someone.

\Yes you can decline a viewing by anyone.

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/06/2025 22:29

Yes, give the new agent a list of names. Tell them not to arrange viewings with those people.

user593 · 15/06/2025 22:32

Yes, you can say you don’t want x viewing the property (although they may use a false name). I did this with an ex I didn’t want snooping around our former home (I’d bought him out many years before).

There’s a woman in the village where I live who is well known for booking viewings with no intention of buying. My former neighbour told her estate agent not to allow her to view. It’s your house, your rules!

A friend of my Mum does that.

Mum found out when they were out and they saw a new development. Friend dragged her in and they had free coffee and biscuits and a good snoop around with no intention of buying a new home.

Ask your estate agent to only show your property to people who have accepted an offer on their own place or are first time buyers with a deposit/mortgage in principle.

jeaux90 · 19/10/2025 10:24

One of the jobs of your EA is to qualify who are serious buyers. It would be helpful if you to tell them this persons name.

Littlemouse123 · 19/10/2025 14:12

thanks everyone for their views on this, I have sold the house now.
