I have been using lotions and oils for years but as I have gotten overweight I feel like they do nothing for my skin other then make me sweaty and overheat. I really don't know what I should do with them tbh. They don't really do much for my skin as it is already damaged with stretch marks and wrinkles. I also have multiple health conditions now which make this problem much worse and my skin now looks terrible due to that. I just want to stop using them tbh. Do you use any lotions or oils?

Bin

Just put them in the bin?

If you have any unopened bottles or tubes you can donate them to either a charity shop for resale or to a local charity to give to service users such as homeless centres, women's aid or some food banks take non-food items.

You could also offer them free on sites such as freecycle or gumtree. If there any opened ones they will have a 12-24 month shelf life from date opened so I would just throw them away.

Speak to your GP or pharmacist about your skin and perhaps an emollient cream or ointment would be beneficial rather than trying another moisturiser.

I use hydromol for my hands as I get very dry knuckles. I can use body lotion and face cream but my hands need the emollient.

It seems a waste but you should really bin the opened ones due to hygiene. (Maybe stuff in a pump / bottle where fingers haven’t come into direct contact can be given to a family member if they want it?) Unopened stuff you can give away on Facebook etc.

i feel your pain - I developed a sensitivity to nuts about a decade ago and consequently discovered that what I had suspected to be rosacea was actually my skin reacting to sweet almond oil. I had a lot of stuff I had to get rid of which did feel like a waste but that’s just how it goes sometimes.

So stop using them and get rid? Simple!

Lanzarotelady · 15/06/2025 18:55

Is that what we have got to on this site?

I get it OP. I'm currently clearing my mum's house and dear lord there's dozens of bottles of lotions and potions some older than me probably 😂

Our bin men are very picky and do spot checks. If I filled the bin with those bottles I'd get fined but I also can't put them in the recycling bin as they contain product 😣 and need to be washed out!! I've been sneaking a few in the bin and rinsing some at the outside tap to be recycled.
