Parents copied holiday home

New to mumsnet. A few years ago we brought a holiday caravan by the coast. Shortly after my parents copied and brought just around the corner. My husband strongly dislikes my parents and now he no longer wants to go to our holiday home. I’ve asked my parents to not come over all the time but they really don’t get the message. They will just pop in to say hi because they were passing or come around to use the shower (their caravan is mobile but on a permanent pitch). Im so depressed about the whole situation. AIBU if i told them our holiday place is now ruined and they should have gave us that place to ourselves and not followed?

@UndermyShoeJoe that's terrible. Are owners allowed to rent their caravans out? If they can't even do that, why would anyone buy a static caravan?

I'm not surprised he doesn't like them. WTAF is wrong with them; you can't just turn up at someone's holiday home? And buying one nearby too? Tone deaf.

Do you not like them popping over too or are you just trying to deliver a message on your husband's behalf? If the former - being at it, really loudly, bandage gear optional - when they (ahem) come by, would fix that right away.

Why doesn’t you husband like them at all?

Maybe because they do shit like this.

Don’t tell them when you’re going there?

Depends on the site. Some are owners only and you’ll know that when you buy it.

Problems also happen when sites are sold off. So you might buy on a small family owned site that’s very enjoy have fun basic rules is basic rules. Then they want to retire and the children don’t want the site and it gets sold to a big company who come in and change the rules. Because your options are pay the yearly rent and accept the new terms and conditions or pull your caravan off. Which by the way they also charge you for.

Not many sites at all will allow you to bring in your own caravan either at best they might let you use it to trade in to buy one of their newer more expensive caravans.

A lot stipulate they cannot be on site once they hit a certain age, premium plots so sea views and such are only for caravans say no older than 5 years and the rent for those pitches is obviously more expensive too. Decking can only be done by their approved contractors (which they get a cut from)

A lot of impulse buys funnily enough from people who have had a good holiday. They see the sale caravans with the big from £20,995 (that’s cheap as well) this years site fee’s included. Free steps, free siting, owners passes finance from £350 a month, plus we can rent out your caravan for you to cover your fee’s. But then there are so many stipulations for the rent part, you also get none of the school holiday dates as that’s their prime. They might rent it out for over 1k a week but you won’t be getting anywhere near that 1k off your bill, by the time they deduct their cleaning fee’s, the admin fee’s the passes costs, any replacement things a previous guest has broken. The gas used the electric used.

If you want a caravan a couple hours drive just for you and your own family to enjoy they can be worth it. Just pack up your clothes and go is great. But if you want to rent it out and your not a I own multiple vans, clean my own vans, do my own lettings then they are huge money pits. Also the amount of thing renters steal! Cutlery why?? Bedside cabinet again wtf?!?? Sneaking in pets 🤢 it’s pet free for a reason.
