I posted a thread at Easter regarding my ASD 5 year old refusing medication for tonsilitis.

It came back following a nasty cold last week, and after her voice went muffled and she couldn’t swallow the hospital were concerned about it progressing into quinsy and have admitted her for IV antibiotics.

Has anyone an idea how long a hospital stay is for IV antibiotics?

When I had quinsy, I was in for 24h on IV antibiotics, then home with oral antibiotics for 2 weeks + steroids.

Handhold to you, it's quite honestly the worst pain I've had, outside childbirth, but within a couple of hours of starting IV antibiotics and steroids, I could breath and swallow properly again, and the pain started to subside.

As your DD is only little, they may want to keep her in longer.

Hope you are both okay.

Minimum 24 hours of IV antibiotics and usually a dose of IV steroid (dexamethasone) as well. After that most patients are able to eat and drink again and can be discharged home with oral antibiotics and pain relief.

My daughter was age 9 when this happened to her. We had 3 days/2 nights in hospital. 2 different types of IV antibiotics and IV steroids for 48 hours. Then home with 4 different medications for the next two weeks! It was absolutely awful, so sending big hugs to you and your DD. I hope she feels better soon.
