I just got on the scales for the first time after months of giving up on my self binge eating and depression and I've hit 20 stone I'm only 5ft so morbidly obese. I just feel like theres no hope I can barely move around anymore I feel like theres no getting back from this place. is there any hope?

Of course there is. Can you get treatment for your depression? You need to tackle one thing at a time.

There is always hope, and well done for biting the bullet and seeing where you are now. Depression is an absolute bastard for weight gain, have you got that under control via your GP? The good news is, that small changes will have big results for weight loss, or preventing more gain.

im not a huge advocate for weight loss drugs, or fad diets, but limiting junk food and filling up on healthy food would be a start? I’d also concentrate on trying to increase steps daily initially, even around the house / up the stairs. Start small, no need to go crazy!

I'm on waiting lists for therapy so that's just a waiting game. I try to walk as much as I can around the house cleaning etc but for every 5 minutes I move I have to sit and recover for 15 minutes so feel like I'm fighting a loosing battle most of the time

Yes there’s hope. Please don’t think that there’s no way back from where you are. Any exercise will help, even if you need time to recover. As you keep doing the movements, so the recovery time will reduce.

As well as moving around the house, you could add in some strengthening exercises. There are various examples online of things you can do that don’t need any special equipment.

How do you feel about logging what you eat each day on an app, like MyFitnessPal or Nutracheck?

Have you seen your GP? Im sure they could help

Always hope 😁. What about one positive change a week?

Try Overeater's Anonymous https://www.oagb.org.uk/

Beat is an eating disorders helpline https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/

You can look for further support on Hub of Hope https://hubofhope.co.uk/

You might find mindfulness helpful as it helps you recognise your thoughts so you aren't on automatic pilot.

I know it's not easy moving but Tai Chi is a wonderful, holistic type of movement. You can start with five minute and build up. You don't need any equipment, just somewhere to stand.

Add, don't take away. For example, take a good multivitamin and prebiotic. Drink a glass of water a day. Add fruit. Add some vegetables etc

Of course there is hope. Remember that 20 stone is just your 'starting weight' - you are not 'a 20 stone person' forever. As soon as your weight starts to go down, you will start finding it easier to take more exercise and as pp has said, the more weight you have to lose, the more impact small changes will have. Perhaps you could calculate online what your maintenance calorie intake would be, and start planning a daily intake that would put you in deficit? Try to include healthy, unprocessed foods as much as you can. You can take control without having to starve yourself and feeling your weight is in your control rather than something that just happens to you, is half the battle.
