Did anyone else’s toddler become fussy with food at 18 months?

My DD hasn’t been a difficult eater up until now (apart from when she’s ill or teething which is normal).

However, since turning 18 months she’s become quite fussy … did anyone else’s DC also behave like this? What’s the best way to deal with it? Do you offer alternatives each time or is it just a phase you ride out for a bit?

I always offer alternatives as I don’t want her being hungry however, even these don’t seem to work 🥲

Yep. Eldest is 4, used to eat everything I put in front of her. From about 18 months she started turning her nose up at things and pushing the plate away. Youngest is just coming up to 18 months and is starting to behave in exactly the same way.

Now eldest is 4 she's getting back into trying things and eating more, but it's a right arse of a time. Just gotta ride it out. Offer safe foods alongside new ones, and every now and again they'll try something. Don't make a big fuss about it if they do or don't, it's just there on their plate and they either eat it or they don't.

Absolutely normal. No good advice I’m afraid other than to push on through.
I had a friend when I was younger who would only eat (for dinner) corned beef, chips and beans.

@Difficile thank you. What was your daughter like with milk intake at this age?

DD has never been a big milk drinker and has CMPA so I worry she’s not getting everything she needs vitamins and nutrients wise if she eats less. I’ve tried buying the vitamin drops to put in her milk, but even milk is hit and miss as to whether she’ll drink it

@MumbleBumbleAppleCrumble thank you. Will try to remain consistent and hopefully she outgrows this phase sooner rather than later!

Yes I think all of mine went through a phase of this, just keep offering lots of healthy options and they will get back into it eventually
