AIBU?
Fucking government online licence renewing site won't accept my photo because I've lost 5 stone and my face is thinner than the rest of my IDs. I assume that's what it is they refuse to tell you and after three attempts you are out.
I have to do it online because I've had major surgery and can't drive yet.
I'll lose my job if I go back without a driving license - it's compulsory.
The nearest post office to me that does it is 10 miles away in a warren of streets with no parking and there is literally nobody to take me.
What the fuck am I supposed to do then?
Excuse the swearing I'm just so stressed.
I've just had equal shit applying for my blue badge and that's going to take 3 months to process.
I'm trying to get better so I can return to work and it's just stress and more stress.

Oh yes Of course, sorry I forgot it was a council thing so could be different in different areas! I was thinking it was government thing

😊👍🏻

Just a thought… you’re not wearing a white top in your photo are you? I had one refused for this. It was a visa appointment and the lady told me I had to redo. Might not be the same for driving licenses but it’s possibly a new rule??

I don't think that is hard to understand. The op has difficulty walking but swimming is much easier as you are supported by the water.

I'll have to cough up for a taxi, none of my neighbours drive and all my friends are at work during post office hours. £100 bloody quid ff's. I have no relatives less than 200 miles away and live alone.
Good thing someone said not all post offices that advertise this service online actually provide the service I'll definitely ring first. I'd have gone mental if I'd got there in a taxi and they didn't do it.

Try the local volunteers who drive people to medical appointments. They might be able to help.
Also, sometimes licences are still valid during the renewal process, it's worth having a really good look at the rules.

Swimming is very good rehab for people who can't walk well.

Yes but I meant in response to her claim that she will lose her job if she doesn’t submit the application today. She will easily be able to do it by post and even if she goes back to work before the photocard licence arrives she can continue driving, as long as the application is being processed.

She strikes me as someone who likes making a big deal of something that’s actually fairly easy to fix.

Kendodd · 11/06/2025 08:04

Last time I had to renew my photocard I just sent them the same picture from ten years ago (so same picture on my old driving licence). They just accepted it.
I know it's not in the spirit (or perhaps rules) anyway, it worked, no hassle, try that.

Are you determined to find a reason why a disabled person is a liar? You know what - disabled does not equate to incapable or stupid. Does that help you any?

Floof79 · 11/06/2025 08:04

Is there an Asda near you? Ours has a Max Spielman concession who will take the photo, check it complies with DVLA rules and email you the image so you can use it on your application …

Yeah actually I did that too, possibly by accident. It means that at some point my photo will be 20 years old 😂

Blue badge . I just go to my local council with photo and ID and form. Pay my tenner.. it's sent to me 3 days later.

🤣🤣🤣

Either you haven’t done it in a while or our local council have different rules

Ours you have to send off proof of diagnosis within the last 6 months in order to renew a Blue Badge. So if you have a lifelong disability you have to go back and either get reassessed or ask the already straining assessment centre/department to write in paper form that your diagnosis still stands

Then you get a letter to say that appointment letters are not valid and then you have to write again to point out that the letter that was sent was a diagnosis letter

Dont get me started on the over 60’s travel card that won’t accept a photo of my passport and the alternative, my driving licence number apparently is invalid

Add to that I have ADHD and I am still paying for my travel

@Deluxecoffee
You are absolutely determined to find a way of accusing a person with disabilities of being a liar. Please stop it. The OP does not have to account to you for their medical conditions, the reason for their disability or their hobbles. It is really offensive that you think they must. If you believe the OP is a troll - report it. If you simply want to find someone to bully, jog on... bullying disability isn't a good look.

Why?

I have a Blue Badge

I have no issues walking. Being disabled takes many forms

Loulabelle1234 · 11/06/2025 08:15

I'm sure I renewed mine online and they used the same photo as my passport. I have a different hair colour and hair style now but I don't care as we can change in 10 years so whose to say I didn't look like that when I applied (if you know what I mean)

Oh fuck off. She’s had major surgery. She’s tired and in pain. Have a day off from being so mean.

brunettemic · 11/06/2025 08:29

£50 for a 10 mile taxi journey? Not a chance.

fungibletoken · 11/06/2025 08:29

Gettingbysomehow · 11/06/2025 07:24

Maybe I am making a drama of it but It's just all so frustrating because I'm in a lot of pain and just need to rest. I was confined to bed for15 months prior to my op and have horrendous muscle wastage and I've just had to deal with it alone. No help from the nhs or GP whatsoever, crawling to bathroom etc.
I've had to work from home to keep my job during all this doing a job that isn't in my job description, I'm clinical NHS so thats all been very stressful and this has been the last straw.
I'm going to just pay for the taxi and be done with it.

Just call them OP - don't get an expensive taxi before you do that. It sounds like this is the last straw in a generally stressful time for you, OP. That's totally understandable - it's infuriating when a simple task takes disproportionately long - but save your energy for other stuff.

My online renewal was rejected a few years ago and it turned out there was a known technical issue on their side affecting certain licences. They fixed it and it was fine. You'd kick yourself if it just turned out the website was down when you tried earlier. Even if it's not that they should send you a paper form and save you the journey. I hope everything picks up a bit for you soon.

My best mate is literally on hospice and palliative care, she’s epileptic and severely sight impaired ... she still swims in rivers and the sea all year round.
