Where can myself, OH and our 2 kids (8yrs and 5yrs, 5yr old is autistic) go on holiday in the UK, for a reasonable price??? (We are skint!) thanks in advance!

What’s your budget? Or could you house swap with a relative or friend in another part of the country ?

ILikeFreesias · 10/06/2025 22:10

Give us an idea of what your budget is, and whether or not you are tied to school holidays

DrCoconut · 10/06/2025 22:12

Depends when and what your budget is. I'm looking at Easter next year and there are caravans for Monday to Friday for under £200. Places like Haven allow you to pay it off bit by bit. The trick is to go to an area where the holidays are slightly different to your area so you can go in "term time".

FanofLeaves · 10/06/2025 22:12

Need to know budget and school holiday restrictions. Difficult to answer without this info. Caravan park seems the most likely cheap holiday. I’ve done Butlins for about £70 accommodation (it was fine, my son loved it)

Theolittle · 10/06/2025 22:12

Well I absolutely love camping. If you could borrow or buy a second hand tent it does make a really cheap but fun holiday with kids, have you ever done it?

MaryTheTurtle · 10/06/2025 22:15

Camping is always a giggle
If you really can’t afford to go away, why not camp in the garden or front room
Build a den and let them sleep in it
Have bedtime stories with a torch
Fun does have to be expensive

leopardprint17 · 10/06/2025 22:23

What's the budget? Skint looks different to everyone. Are you wanting abroad or UK?

OrangeAndPistachio · 10/06/2025 22:27

The cheapest holidays I've had have been at haven or John fowler caravan parks. As a pp has mentioned , you can book in advance with a low deposit and pay these holidays off.

IwasDueANameChange · 10/06/2025 22:31

My kids are similar age & LOVE camping. Lots of choices, mine like woodland/lake sites as much as ones near the coast.

Overthebow · 10/06/2025 22:34

What would you call a reasonable budget? We’ve done UK holidays for around £1500 a week at some nice places,

BarnOwlFlying · 10/06/2025 22:35

I don’t know your budget OP but we like these:

Halls of residence are sometimes rented out to tourists. Might be a cheaper option.

Somewhere like Portsmouth might be good. It’s a cheap city . Nice weather as it’s SE and by the sea (but not a brilliant beach so not paying beach holiday prices) and absolutely loads of interesting free stuff to do.

rosydreams · 10/06/2025 22:42

This is why we go camping or we would not be able to afford to go every year .We get a ehu pitch by the sea for a week each year. So we can charge our phones and have our laptops for the end of the day. You can find campsites were you cant drive in the pitching area so its safer for special needs

Coffeislife · 10/06/2025 22:44

Like pp say without a budget it's hard to help also when you want to go away ect

uncomfortablydumb60 · 10/06/2025 22:45

Haven,, even a 3/4 night break
Fond memories of DS2 being stung by a jellyfish on Hayle beach, Cornwall

wellingtonsandwaffles · 10/06/2025 23:20

I found privately owned 3 bed caravans at Butlin’s for a week in the summer holidays, including activity passes, for £800, is that doable? It’s on the beach and includes everything! Bring your own food etc.

That’s megabucks for a caravan holiday 😮

ParkDean has a week in summer hol for about half that.

Admittedly I’m not au fait with summer holiday prices (yet) as we always go during term time with our young DS but that seems extortionate for a caravan when you’re factoring in a weeks worth of food. Not something anyone ‘skint’ could afford, that’s for sure.

TheaBrandt1 · 10/06/2025 23:29

Do you have a nice house in an area of interest? House swap is free and can be brilliant

Genevieva · 10/06/2025 23:48

Sometimes overseas is cheaper. See if you can find a chap flight to an inexpensive European destination.

DrUptonsGardenGnome · 10/06/2025 23:52

Try the Frugal Mum website - she has lots of suggestions and tips for cheap UK breaks.

Middleagedstriker · 10/06/2025 23:58

Do you like dogs? Try trusted house sitters. Free stays all over the place for looking after pets.

KenAdams · 12/06/2025 13:07

What's your budget?

dontcomeatme · 12/06/2025 13:12

You need a caravan park, we love whitley bay, but it's part of the park Dean resorts and they're dotted about the uk. They normally have parks, pools, kids disco, arcades, and are normally situated near beaches. Pretty decent prices still

idrinkandiknowthings · 12/06/2025 13:24

Much as I detest The Sun "news"paper, I've collected their holiday vouchers in the past and got holidays dirt cheap.

MightyGoldBear · 12/06/2025 13:32

We do haven caravans have managed it for £180 one year. Then we do stays at cottages/lodges for around £300. We just do trips out to the beach picnic etc

Camping might be an idea.
We have also managed to get center parcs for £450 but term time.

If not stay home and put finances to days out. Mine actually love doing a whole day where we visit all the local parks and find ones we never knew existed.
