to think most MN members would like to be able to click on any given username and see when they joined the site and how many posts they've made?

It would be an easily added helpful tool in assessing - for those who care - who might be a troll or other type of fake (say AI) poster.

I has been in operation for years on other forums I use, along with no name changing without quite a convoluted process of emailing and asking permission and giving reasons.

I'm sure HQ are never going to modify the name changing facility now, but maybe they would listen if there was enough feeling in favour of establishing some sort of poster history (albeit quite minor) on the site?

Please vote! Thank you.

I use Mumsnet differently to how I use other forums, I'm here to help other women, share info, and have a laugh.

Trolls are here because they think they can disrupt women talking, but we aren't going anywhere. They forget we talk to each other while minding toddlers. They have nothing to teach us, they aren't funny. Try not to give them any headspace.

JockyWilsonsaid · 10/06/2025 20:45

I've been here for years. I don't think I want to know how many posts I've made, it will merely illuminate how much time I've wasted spent on here rather than engaging in life cleaning.

stayathomer · 10/06/2025 20:48

I hate when you see someone say for example ‘but catlover26, you said you’d never been to Spain before’. Horrible that people trawl through posts looking to catch people out!

Andoutcomethewolves · 10/06/2025 20:49

I've just been accused (by several posters) of lying on a thread about something quite traumatic that's happened to me (DV). I've been on here since around 2010 but under different names and my backstory has never changed. So yes, I think that would be a good idea. It's quite upsetting when you're already in a crappy situation to be accused of being fake. I'd like to think nobody would be so bored as to create a fake history and life and post about it for 15 years!

I think we used to have year of joining back when you could have a profile.

I had photos of my then toddlers on mine!! Bloody stupid really.

Haha I used to be on another forum years and years ago where everyone had a ‘signature’ underneath their posts. Most people (including myself) had those little trackers that counted down to their due date or baby/toddler’s birthday. Most of us had children’s names and/or photos on there, makes me really cringe now! 😳

TheOriginalEmu · 10/06/2025 20:51

Can’t say I care personally. I name change sometimes because I don’t want to be identified.

MargotTenenbaumscoat · 10/06/2025 20:55

I joined around 18 years ago, had a break at some point and couldn’t access my account so the ‘new me’ hasn’t been here ‘that’ long.

That was really boring to explain and of no interest to anyone (even me). I don’t care how long people have been here, whether they are a troll or AI. If it’s interesting enough I will engage. Sometimes trolls are more fun

Port1aCastis · 10/06/2025 20:57

Can't remember when I joined I think it was about 2010 but there are no prizes for being a poster for many years, also someone could be trolling for 20years or more who knows. I may name change now and then and that's what I like about the site and I'm also very careful what I post. Any changes that could make me recognisable I'll say goodbye. Why on earth does anyone care how many posts I've made anyway?

pimplebum · 10/06/2025 20:58

If you suspect a troll - report, I hate troll hunting and really hate people calling a post a reverse , I’ve been on this site 12 years and have never read areal reverse

Sometimes it’s helpful to have context ie if a person has repeatedly posted the same stuff over again ( I am thinking if the mum who’s is obsessed her kid has asd)

but I don’t like it when people delve into past post to try to trip a poster up over details

FutureCatMum · 10/06/2025 20:59

Nope. I have no interest in trolling or knowing potentially identifying information about random strangers on the internet. Wouldn’t use it, don’t care.
It’s the internet, take it with a pinch of salt.

ssd · 10/06/2025 21:02

This is a great idea op

TheHateIsNotGood · 10/06/2025 21:10

I remember way back when some poster searched my posting history and found a thread I started as a means to whip me and call me a sad bastard.

I was shocked at the time at the low levels but since understand that it's par for the course nowadays. In those days I was float62 and now I am THING and tooled up to face whatever the MN website/collectiv chucks at me.

@LindorDoubleChoc I'd have no problem with that. I participate less and less of late because I suspect so many posts these days. My #1 complaint about MN is that they aren't doing enough on this front - tackling fake posters and time wasters. I have been happy to provide ID and/or paid membership to get verified status on several sites and the benefits are enormous imho - it has a huge impact on minimising fake or spurious/pop-up accounts making antagonistic/inflammatory/time wasting posts - as a consequence - I spent more time on those sites and participate far more.

To which sites are you giving your personal data and ID? 😳

Hell would freeze over before I give Mumsnet or any other forum my ID (and data that I can avoid giving).

DoYouReally · 10/06/2025 21:41

I don't care who posts or who often etc. I don't even care about trolls but it's better when they are good ones rather than obvious crap.

Been in here years, I only know the name of 4 posters (2 unnecessarily bitchy and must be miserable in real life) and one who posts anti-Irish comments every time she gets an opportunity. The final one has a brilliant username.

NattyTurtle59 · 10/06/2025 21:59

I'm not the slightest bit interested in when posters joined, or how many posts they've made. I really don't even care if threads are genuine or not. I'm here for a bit of entertainment, it doesn't need to go any deeper than that.

JaneJeffer · 10/06/2025 22:04

I think we should be allowed to troll the trolls.

MaryGreenhill · 10/06/2025 22:08

Not really, just report them

yestothat · 10/06/2025 22:15

How would that work for you?
I only joined last year and I’m sure there’s new genuine mums joining daily. Would you ignore our posts because we’re new?

Port1aCastis · 10/06/2025 23:20

Bongosbanjo · 10/06/2025 20:43

Eh, naw. Trust my own judgement on spotting trolls, AI etc n canny be arsed doing a full DBS search on posters.

This made me chuckle, and now the dog is now looking at me in a peculiar manner 😀
