just that really - its a cold case but will we ever find out?

OP posts:
MyMindIsSoLoud · 10/06/2025 17:46

Probably not, but I’d love the mystery to be solved.

Slobberchops1 · 10/06/2025 17:46

He’s in South Africa

Americano75 · 10/06/2025 17:48

Probably not.

pipthomson · 10/06/2025 17:49

heard he was in Goa India

Hatty65 · 10/06/2025 17:50

Nope. The most likely thing is that he commited suicide after mistakenly killing the nanny. He was bankrupt and about to be found guilty of murder.

I suspect he panicked and could see no way out. It's unlikely that he could vanish so completely otherwise. Sightings of him have never been reliable. People just like a bit of conspiracy theory.

XelaM · 10/06/2025 17:58

I still don't understand or believe that he could mistake the nanny gor his wife. Makes no sense. If it wasn't a killing for hire I don't believe he could have mixed up his wife and the nanny

It’s probably harder to hide a dead body than a live one, though?
Where could he have hidden himself that his body has never shown up?

FamilyPhoto · 10/06/2025 18:02

I think he is at the bottom of the English Channel.

CustardySergeant · 10/06/2025 18:08

I think John Aspinall probably helped him to 'disappear', but I don't think we'll ever find out the details of what happened.

Portabella · 10/06/2025 18:14

Oh I hope so!

RubberyChicken · 10/06/2025 18:20

I think he works in my local Tesco, but I can't be sure

His car was found in Newhaven. He almost certainly threw himself into the sea.

HappiestSleeping · 10/06/2025 18:30

I thought he ran the chippy with Elvis. And Shergar in the back garden 😉

PennyAnnLane · 10/06/2025 18:35

Orangemintcream · 10/06/2025 18:35

I am of the opinion he managed to get out of the country and lived happily elsewhere out of the reach of the law.

DeSoleil · 10/06/2025 18:35

The car he was using was found near the harbour in Newhaven, 16 miles away; it had been parked between 5am and 8am.

It’s most likely that Lucky hit in a ferry and then jumped overboard at some point into the channel.

Or did he?

He was well known to be arrogant and superior and it would be just like him to think he could outwit the police who were of a lower class/social standing to him.

He had friends that would have helped him get out of the country and who would have sworn solemnly never to reveal the truth.

I'd also like to know where Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès ended up. As per Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix

HarryVanderspeigle · 10/06/2025 18:38

No, I don't think we will ever find out. Remains are unlikely to turn up in the channel after all this time and if he died after a long life elsewhere, he achieved anonymity.

bellocchild · 10/06/2025 18:40

He'd be 90 now!

stringbean · 10/06/2025 18:40

Have a look at the BBC documentary about it from last year. The son of the nanny - he was given up by her at birth for adoption - has spent most of his adult life since his adoptive mother died trying to uncover the truth. I doubt we’ll ever know but makes for interesting viewing. A secretary/assistant working for John Aspinall (I think it was him) in the late 60s/70s organised trips for Lucan’s children to Africa so he could view them from afar. I’m certain he got away with help from wealthy friends, just not sure how far he got.

Pedallleur · 10/06/2025 18:42

Will probably be a family secret. But he could have weighted himself and drowned. Eton and the Guards so old school tie may have helped him. Just read he paid 17.5k for the house in Belgravia, equivalent to 401k today. House in Belgravia for 400k? I'll take 2.

sanityisamyth · 10/06/2025 18:44

My dad was the first policeman on the scene.

My dad was the first policeman on the scene.

Has he followed it closely since/ what does he think?

ExpressCheckout · 10/06/2025 18:48

I saw him once, topping up the pick-n-mix at Woolies in Grimsby.

This is such a horrific case! I watched the documentary about it. And also so bizarre and completely out of the blue. Wasn't one of the children away at uni and he called them home only to kill them? Why?!
