Was quoted this in local laundry/dry cleaners. £19 - I think this is ridiculous. Or am I out of touch? Central Scotland.

They fit in my machine and it’s nice out today so you’d get it dry, my sons is currently outside almost dry (also central Scotland) if they don’t fit you can use those big communal machines they wash and dry and are fab as @dementedpixie mentioned we used them a while back for our kingsize duvet

Cheaper to buy a new one 😕

Etheral · 10/06/2025 14:22

I cram mine in the washing machine and hang out on a warm sunny day. Tomorrow might be good depending where you live

Thank you all. I was expecting it to be about £10 - single synthetic duvet. I do have a large washing machine but no tumble dryer , so will need to choose the moment!
Don’t use that cleaners very often, but have found their prices ok in the past.

We have a double duvet, a standard washing machine and no tumble dryer. Duvets dry very quickly outside so I wash them on a sunny day a couple of times a year, and they’re dry in a few hours.

bigkahunaburger · 10/06/2025 14:37

Buy coverless duvets. They are game changing!

I have queen size and a king, and all they all fit in my 7kg standard washing machine, and they are hung over the banister and dry in an hour. I don't know how they do it - its some kind of wizardry - but they are amazing.

A couple of years ago, I was quoted £59 to dry clean a pair of curtains that had cost me £40. They weren’t anything special or particularly big. Also central Scotland.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 10/06/2025 22:36

depends what capacity your washing machine is
Use one of those machines which are in supermarket/ garages
They text you when it's done
As a guide I can get my 4.5 tog in an 8kg
i wouldn't want the chemicals on my duvet anyway

TheCurious0range · 10/06/2025 22:38

I do single and double at home (10kg drum) super king I take to the launderette, I used one of the outdoor self service machines this week, £9 and it comes out really well spun so an afternoon on the line and it was ready for vacuum bagging and putting away for next winter.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 10/06/2025 22:40

I bought a silentnight coverless duvet and I'm not exaggerating it's changed my life!
I only have one functional arm and it's the one task I couldn't do and my DS1 did it( happily but still)
washed and back on bed in 2 hours
£23 well spent

OneFineDay13 · 11/06/2025 07:32

Clean it in the bath! Plenty of hot water and whatever cleaner you like much cheaper

Agree, just what I was thinking

Wexone · 11/06/2025 12:12

My laundrette charges 40e for it to be washed and dry in a day. mine is a super king duck and goose down that cost me 400e last year after replacing my old one after 10.years. I dint belive in buying cheap duvets. all the rest of my duvets fit in the washing machine and dryer.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 11/06/2025 12:13

This is why I bought a large capacity washing machine. All our duvets can fit in the machine.

My DS wasn't dry at night until age 12 so it was an absolute necessity!!

Isobel201 · 11/06/2025 12:25

I have a kingsize coverless duvet that I often spot wash, but if I want the entire thing washing, my mum will do it in her 10kg one. I only have a 5kg which can do king size summer duvets. Again I have to pick and choose the moment to do it, and quite often I've thought of buying a second duvet. If I get a 10kg machine, I still wouldn't be able to dry it as the tumble dryer is only 7kg.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 11/06/2025 12:29

I’ve just taken mine to self service laundrette today. Big machine wash cost £8.50. Now on my line in my garden drying. SE

Mh67 · 11/06/2025 12:30

I've got 8 kg machine and wash single summer and winter duvets no bother

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 11/06/2025 12:33

Also central Scotland and think that’s pretty reasonable. I was quoted £25 recently.

There are some places that have the big washing machines like petrol stations etc not sure what they charge 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 11/06/2025 16:34

Prices are fairly high due to the cost of electricity at the moment (or at least, in the last couple of years), a pick up, wash, dry and return here is 20.95 for a single, 27.75 for a super king. I just shove mine in my machine and line dry - it's nice weather at the mo (although we aren't in Scotland!)

Justnotsureaboutit2021 · 11/06/2025 16:36

We take our king size ones to the launderette. Think its no more than £12 to wash and dry two at the same time. Catch up on work emails whilst waiting for it all to be done :-)

MyKingdomForACat · 11/06/2025 16:39

SE London : £24 for a double to be dry cleaned. To buy new is almost £200 so not bad

Russiandollsaresofullofthemselves · 11/06/2025 20:04

seems normal- i was £36 for a kingsize and that was after checking multiple independent locations. also in scotland

weepat · 12/06/2025 07:34

28.00 last year for a 13.5 king size. Would be cheaper to buy new but very wasteful.
Not a fan of the garage washing units. Local one not well maintained.

KvotheTheBloodless · 12/06/2025 07:36

I washed DS's duvet yesterday and put it outside to dry, it dried in 2 hours. It's synthetic though - down ones are trickier.
