To think MPs falling asleep in the House of Commons is unacceptable?

I sometimes watch debates where they’re discussing huge policy changes that affect millions of people and there’s an MP literally asleep! Regardless of party, shouldn’t we expect the people running the country to at least stay awake during major discussions?

Considering the subsidised prices in the Commons bars, I'd probably need a decent nap by mid-afternoon and struggle to get any actual work done myself.

Totally agree. They’re being paid from the public purse, they should not be sleeping on the job.

No one should sleep on the job. How they are paid is irrelevant

It depends.

2pm unacceptable

2am understandable

I can't get angry about this, I have a terrible time not falling asleep when someone is droning on. In fact I almost fell out of a church pew Sunday and it was a bit embarrassing. I've also dozed off while at the public desk at my job on occasion.

Obviously it's not great, but how to prevent it is the issue. I personally am fine if I get lots of sleep, but between the menopause and my snoring dh, I often struggle to get even a solid 7 hours.

Image shows the built in speakers in the backs of the benches:

And treating the person speaking with such disdain is ok? He was pulled up in it, but sneered, grinned and carried on.lying there

Imagine doing that in the workplace. You'd be sacked
