Should I start weigh loss injections?

Stickystickystick · 09/06/2025 15:35

I am so unhappy with my weight. My BMI is 30. The weight has crept up since having children. I spent over 30 years with a normal BMI and hate being like this. I am perimenopausal and don't think this is helping. I am active and have tried fasting, reducing calories, slimming world (which personally I don't think promotes good or healthy eating habits). I can't get the weight off. I mostly cook from scratch but eat too much. My joints hurt. I feel ugly. People often assume I'm pregnant as the weight sits on my tummy. I'm thinking about weight loss jabs. Will people judge me? Are they worth it?

You will have seen here how people judge, but people judge if you're fat, or thin, or middling.

The jabs work, thats why there is so much talk about them

Idontjetwashthefucker · 09/06/2025 15:37

Go on the weight loss boards, you'll get much better advice over there

Lmnop22 · 09/06/2025 15:39

Why would anyone even know you were on them? Get them, try them and don’t tell anyone you are taking them.

They definitely work!

Divebar2021 · 09/06/2025 15:42

Well people will judge you if you tell them so my advice is don’t tell them. I’ve lost 4 stone since October. I’d read up on some of the issues - it’s obviously not without risk so make sure you know the pros and cons before making a decision.

lola006 · 09/06/2025 15:42

I have a couple friends who are using the jab and have told me because they know I won’t judge. They’ve simply not told anyone they feel will judge them. So just do that, keep it quiet.

toomuchfaff · 09/06/2025 15:44

BMI criteria i think is 30, but if you go somewhere like Simple Online Pharmacy, they ask about menopause and its given consideration in the medical assessment.

BayandBlonde · 09/06/2025 15:45

I did it for 8 weeks. BMI 30, pre diabetic, perimenopausal etc. Weight has piled on in the last two years and I couldn’t shift it.

With a combination of diet, hard exercise and jab I lost 12kg in two months. I don’t have any loose skin and never had any side effects. My last jab was 17th May, I have maintained my calorie defecit and exercise and the weight is still coming off. I have another 3 kg to lose

I won’t lie it’s been bloody hard, 800 cals a day (that works for me, calculating my TDEE etc) 1 hour cardio and weight lifting daily, but I feel amazing and my blood sugar is back to normal levels.

SilenceInside · 09/06/2025 15:48

Some people will judge anonymously, on online threads like this. In real life you don’t have to tell anyone, certainly not anyone who you think might be judgemental. It’s your personal medical information after all. People who are judgemental tend to be poorly informed and lacking critical thinking skills, usually.

WLI work for the large majority, and if you lose weight and improve your health then yes it’s most definitely worth it. Assuming you can afford them and aren’t putting yourself into debt to pay for them.

Stelmosfire1 · 09/06/2025 15:50

its been life changing for me, over 6st down, bp now in normal range, no longer have reflux and feel so much better. My gp is supportive and I’ve had no real difficulties or side effects. I know many people who are now using them and all doing well

Thank you for this. I'm currently doing weights also so that's good to hear. I find my weight makes my cardio more difficult. Thank you for the encouraging message and well done to you

At 800 cals a day, you'd have lost all the weight without the jabs no? 800 cals per day is the basis of most VLCDs

Stephanie2018 · 09/06/2025 16:03

No I don’t think you should. The side effects can be dangerous but not only that, it’s not really addressing the real reason you are over weight or eating unhealthily, or living an unhealthy life style at all. When you come off them, if you do, you will pile it back on again because you won’t of changed your life style habits

Would you not have lost the wright anyway with this discipline?

SilenceInside · 09/06/2025 16:06

@itsobviousright the point of WLI is to enable people to stick to the necessary calorie deficit. Of course if people could manage to stick to it on their own they wouldn’t need the injections. But the OP has outlined why she’s finding that part hard.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 09/06/2025 16:09

Go for it, I’m currently on Mounjaro and it’s been life changing. No adverse side effects, lots of energy, aches and pains have vanished. Go through a reputable pharmacy, good luck!

But 800cals a day is really hard; you are permanently hungry.

The WLI stop you feeling so hungry so it's easier to be disciplined.

Thank you for replying. I do appreciate that. You have made a few assumptions because of the fact I am at a BMI of 30. I actually am very active, play a lot of sport and currently on couch to 10K having previously run half marathons. I cook from scratch most days and don't sit and gorge on chocolate. I would not say i am unhealthy but my weight is. I eat too much. I know that. I was hoping weight loss jabs could kick start me eating less in order to lose weight and eventually maintain that.

BunnyEaster · 09/06/2025 16:23

You do have to adjust your diet and mindset on WLI. I'm finding that it just makes that easier. You don't feel so hungry so it clears your mind. I used to fast until 1pm and before MJ I thought I felt and dizzy if I forgot and ate at 2 or 3pm. Turns out I don't feel sick and dizzy at all. My mind was saying AH! You forgot to eat! You will pass out! Because I only felt sick the moment I realised I was hours late eating. I'm a few months in and have got into a routine now. I do feel dizzy today so tested my blood sugar ( I was just on the cusp of prediabetis before) and my sugars are 5.9. So why else makes me dizzy? Dehydrated?

It's certainly not injecting and carrying on as before. I'm not doing calories etc. So I'm finding out I can loose weight if I have two meals a day and snacks are straight after the meal or fruit.

JunklessTrunk · 09/06/2025 16:27

Perimenopausal here, obese, aching joints, struggling to walk places because my feet hurt. I started mounjaro two weeks ago and it’s incredible. It’s an anti inflammatory so the swelling around my ankles has gone and I can walk without pain again. It’s worth it for that alone.

I’ve been overweight my whole adult life and dieted on and off. You still have to diet with mounjaro but it’s like it’s changed something fundamental in me. It’s not a hardship like it has been, I don’t spend dieting days desperate for my next meal, then stuff my face because I’ve starved myself all day. I’m just eating at meal times, then forgetting about food till the next meal. Hunger kicks in when it should. I’ve never ever had that before.

Theres a weight loss injection board that’s very helpful.

Lolliz87 · 09/06/2025 16:53

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/06/2025 16:54

I've been on it 5 weeks.Bmi was 27.lost nearly a stone so far

AhBiscuits · 09/06/2025 16:56

Go for it. Don't tell anyone you're on them, it's none of their business.

doglosttooth · 09/06/2025 17:02

I am into my 4th week and have lost about 3.5 kgs . It really has flicked off the food noise switch ! It really has helped. Only side effect is slight constipation!
Edited to say I have only told a couple of people. It’s no one’s business tbh.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 09/06/2025 17:06

Started Mounjaro 16 days ago. Have lost 10lb.
I kept it quiet at first, but soon just told people. No one has been negative at all. Wish I'd done this ages ago.

You don't need to to anyone if you're worried about being judged, though!

espresso14 · 09/06/2025 17:07

I don't need them, but I wouldn't judge anyone for taking them. Good on you for wanting to achieve long term change to benefit your health.
