Do people still use tablets or do you do everything on your phones these days?
Thinking of getting a tablet, but not sure if I need both.
Be interested to hear what people do re going on line.😜

I love my Lenovo tablet for browsing in bed as it has a case/stand. It's easier to see than my phone and was fab for a recent hospital stay for watching stuff on. I wouldn't be without it now.

NotMe1981 · 08/06/2025 22:56

I got one in maybe 2012 and used it loads for a few years, but then as phones got bigger and better I stopped, and now I just use my phone and my MacBook. I do have one now but it never gets used, I use my phone for internet browsing, social media and games, my laptop for admin stuff and watching Netflix/prime etc on in bed. I find the laptop easier for watching stuff on as the iPad falls over, and the screen isn’t as big. The only time I ever use the iPad is if I’m going abroad and want something to watch movies on, it’s easier to chuck in a bag and more robust than the laptop for travelling.

FloofyKat · 08/06/2025 23:10

I use my tablet all the time. I find the phone screen small and fiddly and it’s much easier for my fat fingers to type on a tablet keyboard. Better for my eyes, too.

Wingedharpy · 08/06/2025 23:14

I love my tablet.
I hate my phone.

DontTouchRoach · 09/06/2025 09:24

I used to have a phone and a laptop but I’ve recently replaced the laptop with an iPad for which I’ve got a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and an Apple Pencil.

I use my phone for social media, photography, news, shopping, audiobooks, podcasts, passing time on the go, that kind of thing. I use my iPad for writing, blogging, note-taking, games, watching films and tv when I’m on the go, that kind of thing.

TheyreLikeUsButRichAndThin · 09/06/2025 09:29

Yes but only for work, only had it a year. Not like emotionally reliant on it but wouldn’t be able to work without it.

I can’t do things like research or buy stuff on an iPad, I use my laptop.

Social media, banking, school apps, emails etc is all on my phone.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/06/2025 09:30

I use my iPad all the time, bigger screen.
Phone largely for calls and (mostly family) WhatsApp, plus if the old iPad is playing up, was recently on a go-slow.

I always look later at WhatsApp photos on the iPad screen - so much better.

Fluffypussycat · 09/06/2025 09:31

I use my iPad frequently including for looking at Mumsnet. I use it for my banking too because I don’t need to look at my accounts on my phone. My phone is for WhatsApp, texting and verification codes as well as for an actual phone.

fussychica · 09/06/2025 09:31

I do most things on my Samsung tablet except WhatsApp and calls plus a couple of games. I have all my Apps on both but use the tablet way more. The screen is top notch so if I want to watch TV when not at home the tablet is perfect.
I love a bigger screen but obviously the phone wins for portability. I no longer have a laptop.

Expatornot · 09/06/2025 09:35

Does anyone actually use a tablet or iPad for work as a replacement or substitute for a laptop or
pc? I am self employed.
I use my laptop everyday. Excel accounting word etc.
I travel a bit and take my laptop for longer trips but mostly find myself in a car or at a restaurant and I need to do some sort of minor work thing like updating a spreadsheet or viewing an invoice or reading a document. My laptop is overkill for that and my phone is too small.

northernstars · 09/06/2025 10:31

@ExpatornotIf I’m doing my proper job I use the laptop. Mainly because I’ve used it for so long it’s second nature for excel, word etc. It’s also the only place all my files are and I like the fact that it’s ‘separate’ from everything else. When I use the laptop I’m usually on a deadline!

Sprig1 · 09/06/2025 10:33

I use my Samsung tablet every day for browsing the internet. If I am in the house I will always use that rather than my phone.

nomas · 09/06/2025 10:47

Once you get an iPad, you won't go back.

Sadcafe · 09/06/2025 10:56

Definitely the iPad over a phone, can’t be doing with the small screen on a phone for reading or watching something , only disadvantage personally is I find it poor for typing documents etc if needed and not the easiest to download from , to a usb for example

So it wouldn’t be to replace my laptop. That is still for hardcore desk bound work.
All my files are on a cloud service anyway.
im not a movie watcher or game player
so wondering whether an iPad would help me work on the go instead of having to wait until I’m back at my desk because I don’t want to take my laptop everywhere.
anyone use is for basic excel etc?

Henry8thHoover · 09/06/2025 11:31

I have a Lenovo tablet. I use it mostly for Netflix etc and also for surfing while my phone is charging.

Rocknrollstar · 09/06/2025 11:39

I have an iPad Pro in a case with a full size keyboard. I don’t have a computer - this is all I need along with my phone.

PassingStranger · 10/06/2025 17:42

What about all the extra charging?

I use mine all the time. We don't have a smart TV although we do have a firestick but anything on Netflix, YouTube, i-player etc that I want to watch by myself I watch on my tablet, usually in bed. Also download and read e-books and magazines, play games and scroll Mumsnet.

Alconleigh · 10/06/2025 18:02

I use mine for reading The Times, Mumsnet, emailing and general internet browsing when at home. I use my phone for all of those when out and about, but prefer them all on the iPad.

UnctuousUnicorns · 10/06/2025 18:08

I use a 10 inch tablet with a stand so I can have it on the table, or on my lap - I have a laptray - in landscape mode, like a little laptop (sort of). I can't stand typing on farty little phone screens. My phone is just for making calls, Bluetoothing music and other audio to sound bars or speakers, and casting stuff to the television. Also as a hotspot when I'm away from the home WiFi. Most browsing, emails, viewing photos etc.is done on my tablet. I also watch stuff in bed with BT headphones after DH has gone to sleep, as he always falls asleep before me. When I come to need to replace this tablet I'll opt for the same size or bigger.

PassingStranger · 10/06/2025 18:13

Has anyone got a tablet with data included?
For those without broadband, you can get a tablet with data on it.
Your choice
5gb, 125gb or unlimited?
Monthly fee for tablet and data?

henlake7 · 10/06/2025 18:30

Currently on my tablet. If I'm at home I prefer the bigger screen for scrolling, reading, watching movies, etc.
I usually watch Netflix whilst I'm cooking or exercising as well.
I desperately need a new one though, mine has such an old OS I can't get YouTube anymore.

Iamtired123 · 10/06/2025 20:02

My tablet is now just a glorified white noise machine 😂
