Headache for over a month

DP is often very anxious about health things, but very rarely gets to the point where he’d actually book a GP appointment. He’s just told me, however, that he’s had a continuous headache for over a month and is going to see his GP as he is so worried. For him to do that means it must be bad. I’d have to nag forever to get him to the GP otherwise.

Has anyone ever had similar? What sort of tests should he be pushing for? We are in our early 40s. We’ve had a very difficult and acutely stressful few years, but otherwise health wise he doesn’t smoke, rarely drinks, vegetarian. I’ll get him to get his eyes tested again.

Has he been taking paracetamol for them on a regular basis? I get rebound headaches from them and basically have to suffer withdrawal headaches for a few days.

No he hasn’t been, maybe once or twice but not consistently through the whole time he says it’s been an issue.

Does he need an eye test.
Dehydrated?

BirdsAreMuchLoved · 08/06/2025 21:59

Check his blood pressure.

If he is stressed it could be grinding teeth and or muscle imbalances in neck and shoulders. Definitely get it checked out though!

There's all sorts of things that can cause this.

I get it from clamping my jaw shut in my sleep.

It won't necessarily be something awful.

Fingers crossed for him.

I get regular/daily headaches from
dehydration
an ongoing neck issue
bad posture
grinding my teeth
eye strain
Lack of sleep

hes doing the right thing getting checked out. If the gp gives him the all clear he should get his eyes tested as well

Thank you to everyone who posted. By way of update, GP did bloods, including one for Lyme’s Disease as DP got bitten by a tic a month or so ago. They were all clear. He’s also had an eye test and his prescription hasn’t changed.

GP has said it could be musculoskeletal or a “grumbling migraine.” He has given DP anti migraine tablets which so far haven’t done much bar make him feel groggy. He’s going back in four weeks to see him again for a follow up. Headache hasn’t gone and he’s been on the tablets for just over a week. He’s very ratty and avoiding driving. I think he should try and get signed off for a bit or get a fit note as his job involves a lot of screen use and concentration as it’s all data management and coding, but he won’t hear of it. Did say today he’d think about seeing an osteopath in case it is a musculoskeletal problem though.

Surely a head CT is on the cards now. Ask for one, he can't go on like this, it's so cruel.
