Husband moaning about dinners

Willow990 · 08/06/2025 16:55

I meal prep every Sunday for dinners for the week ahead, a typical week looks something like this:

Mon - chilli or spaghetti bolognese
Tuesday - curry (chicken)
Wednesday - fish (salmon usually)
Thursday - stir fry
Friday - Steak

I told DH this morning what I was planning for next week and he asked whether there’s any chance of some variety and for me to try some new dishes. He works long days and I’m usually about to serve up as he walks through the door.

Has anyone got any ideas for how I could freshen things up?

I suggest asking your husband to come up with some ideas.

Or even better I would tell him it is his turn to do the cooking this week including the meal planning

Cheeky git. What does he want? Michelin starred cassoulet de Toulouse and bouillabaisse??

UmbrellaNeeded · 08/06/2025 17:00

What about Gousto/Simply Cook or Hello Fresh?

What about beans on toast?

hopeishere · 08/06/2025 17:03

Do you work out of the house? Do you like cooking?

We eat the same every week as well as my kids are so fussy. It’s boring but I don’t have the headspace to think of more options, although I am risking a a new gnocchi recipe this week.

What about going out for dinner one night?

Hello Fresh is good to ring the changes a bit.

BIWI · 08/06/2025 17:03

Why are you the one doing all the cooking? Are you a SAHM?

TBH, I think he’s right in the sense that if you’re cooking the same things every week it does get very boring. But I’d rather see him getting involved and offering to cook!

We eat out over the weekend - usually on Saturday for a lunch or dinner and on a Sunday we usually have a roast at family’s.

What are his ideas?
last week we had
chicken noodles
paneer spinach and rice
baked potatoes
beef rendang
Cajun fish wraps
chicken curry

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/06/2025 17:05

If it’s the same every week, I agree with him.

No reason he can’t cook sometimes, though.

I work part time to fit in with childcare, he gets back too late to cook plus it’s not something he enjoys

I do have plenty of ideas (have my own small batch cooking business) - but firstly - do you work?

MadamCholetsbonnet · 08/06/2025 17:06

He/She who identifies the problem, solves it. He can suggest different dishes and cook himself. You aren’t running a restaurant.

BellissimoGecko · 08/06/2025 17:08

Why don’t you both sit down with some recipe books for an hour and mark ones you fancy? If he works long hours in the week, then it’s easier for you to cook, but why can’t he cook at the weekend?

pinkdelight · 08/06/2025 17:09

I'd tell him yes darling, there's a variety of fuck off and make your own new dishes if you moan about the dinners I've planned ahead and dish up as you walk through the door.

But clearly you're more tolerant than me and he makes up for it with some wonderful husbanding somehow.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/06/2025 17:10

Shit sandwich
Knuckle sandwich

I'd be telling him to cook his own bloody dinner.

Whattodo1610 · 08/06/2025 17:11

Ok dear … have fun making your own dinners from now on. Simple.

And I'm sure you enjoy every single mundane task left to do whilst the big man has his very important job and that's all he can manage as it's so so important.

Bit harsh: I don’t like cooking so my husband does it.

Sera1989 · 08/06/2025 17:14

I would say instead of me having to think of, buy for, prep AND cook the dinners, that perhaps he would like to take over the simplest one of those tasks

But do you then criticise and complain at your dh?
