To ask if you have hotel fluster feeling

I've just stayed overnight at a nice hotel, had a shower, dried and done my hair etc yet still I feel all scruffy and out of sorts. Does anyone else get this? Always feel a bit hot, different water makes hair funny etc or am I just being too much of a creature of habit about my own house?
I know this is a first world problem so LIGHTHEARTED *

I can never open the coffee sachets without a fight 🤔😀☕

FOJN · 08/06/2025 12:17

Yes this is totally relatable. I can stay in the smartest hotel, shower and have clean ironed clothes and I still don't feel "clean" in the same way I do at home. It's a weird out of sorts feeling. I get it anywhere that isn't home.

TokyoSushi · 08/06/2025 12:23

Yep, definitely agree!

CanOfMangoTango · 08/06/2025 12:26

Yep.

Hotel rooms are always too hot. The sheets and duvet are different to home. The chair/ sofa is never comfy enough to slob out on and I'm always aware that housekeeping could knock on the door at any time.

It's the same in a premier inn and a 5 star hotel. So i don't pay for expensive hotels where i can avoid it.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/06/2025 12:29

I have never felt this and have no idea what you refer to.

@CanOfMangoTango - have you never used the Do Not Disturb sign? They are very effective.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 08/06/2025 12:31

I call that ‘hotel hair’.

It’s terrible. I think it’s worse for curly gals because the idea of travel diffusers is still pretty rudimentary. If I’m traveling for work I fall back to the ‘90s little tiny hair clippys if I’m on vacation it’s pigtail buns (short to medium length hair not able to get a ponytail/top bun.

I also am distrustful of the in room coffee makers so I’m always hunting a cup in the lobby/restaurant like grumpy lion searching for a gazelle on the Serengeti plains.

Changedusernameforthis2 · 08/06/2025 12:32

I sometimes find it so annoying, especially if its a posh weekend and I've taken lovely outfits. Somehow I always feel not quite clean, not quite right. It's made me think I don't know how brides get ready in a hotel room and feel the best they can on their wedding day

I’m not sure I know what you mean, but I am in hotels for work nearly every week so maybe it’s my new normal! But I’m on the Hilton points scheme so usually similar (if not the same) hotels and weirdly familiar.

I don’t however like showering at other peoples houses - prefer to come home to my shower, my stuff. I feel a bit funny in that way, possibly the same thing.

Sparticle · 08/06/2025 12:36

Sorry I’ve no idea what you mean either. Certainly the ‘not feeling clean’ bit after showering at a hotel strikes me as strange!

PomeloOud · 08/06/2025 12:38

I‘m the opposite.

But there’s no way I’d use hotel products or hairdryers.

Saggyoldclothbody · 08/06/2025 12:39

I don’t feel clean because the bathroom becomes like a sauna and there’s no proper ventilation in most hotel rooms.

I reckon it could be this especially after a warm night in an unfamiliar place. A bit like the faffy feeling after having been swimming

Totally the opposite for me! I love hotel showers and feel they scour me beautifully clean and leave my hair really soft. It could be because where I live the water is really hard and the water pressure is rubbish so hotels are always an improvement.

See I’m the opposite my home water is really soft and my water pressure could strip paint. I always remove the stupid low flow adapter on my shower heads to get real water pressure and water. (I could probably do the same in the hotel but that seems like overkill).

When they installed my water heater I had them adjust it away from the factory settings to increase the max temperature. The installer questioned me (no kids in the house so only adults) and laughed that his wife made him do the same thing at home.

I told him between the water temperature and the pressure I wanted to scare the dirt off of me 👻

Surroundedbyfools · 08/06/2025 12:57

No I’m the opposite. If I stay at a hotel and we r child free I get to have a lovely hot luxurious shower, get to spend time actually doing my hair and getting dressed even casually! At home I get to have a quick shower ram my hair up and clothes on and get to work sorting out 2 toddlers. Hotel life is elite !

DrFoxtrot · 08/06/2025 12:58

Yes I know what you mean. The rooms are too hot, the water is different, I haven’t slept as well as usual so also feel extra shit because of that. I think it’s a combination of factors.

Thepossibility · 08/06/2025 13:04

Yes I feel like this too! My shower and bathroom are lovely so a hotel bathroom doesn't feel like a treat. There's never enough space to bring all the products in the shower and have them easy to reach. The towels feel weird. Yes to not ventilated enough. The rooms feel either not clean enough or not cosy enough to feel just right. Too modern and it makes me feel like I'm trying to relax in an office.

The best bit is not having to clean the shower, and leaving the towels on the floor knowing that someone else will replace them.

MyKingdomForACat · 08/06/2025 13:28

Love the rainfall showers. Loathe it when the toilet is in the bathroom tho especially if the towels are stacked on a rail above the toilet (like the 5 star place we stayed in Lanzarote last month). I feel the fumes from the loo have got on them. Finally the hairdryer that’s far more powerful than your own that just blows the hair about and is too heavy to control.

shellyleppard · 08/06/2025 13:31

@InterestedDad37 i can never get the little milk containers open without a shower 😂

IfIDid · 08/06/2025 13:40

I hate hotels, from Premier Inns to the most luxurious, because my stint in housekeeping as a student summer job in the US made me hyper-aware of how much unenjoyable invisible work goes into presenting a hotel room so that it appears as though no one else has ever stayed there before.

mondaytosunday · 08/06/2025 13:43

No - I mean I’ve stayed at some dodgy places that I wouldn’t want to shower in but your average run of the mill place I feel fine. I like the feel of the cold clean sheets (I always remove the decorative comforter and silly pillows).

Gowlett · 08/06/2025 13:44

I feel the opposite. First of all, it’s clean & today, I can live my minimalist dreams without DS, DH (and my) crap everywhere.

It’s the only time I watch TV, eat goodies, lounge in bed. I always get into the bath. Hotel shampoo is fine! It’s a break from life.

mangonut · 08/06/2025 13:49

The last hotel I stayed at had Byredo stuff which was nice, but I still prefer my own shampoo etc. I think the lights in the bathrooms often are too dark.

Cynic17 · 08/06/2025 13:51

I never have this. I absolutely adore staying in hotels. In fact, I'd like to die in one (as long as it's a very expensive 5 star!).
