Aibu to say this should be reported to the police

Last night my DD was picking her younger sister up. While she was stopped outside a car pulled up alongside her and threw some food at her window. This car then followed her most of the way home driving very dangerously and aggressively going right up behind her almost touching the bumper and weaving in and out of traffic at speed and at one point when she pulled off the main road sped in
front of her and then suddenly stopped.

DD has only been driving a year and is a good safe driver but this really scared her. They didn’t get the licence plate as said headlights were so bright you couldn’t read it.

I think we should report this via 101 but DH says why bother they won’t do anything. I just think it could happen to someone else and cause an accident.

I'm not sure what you want the police to do without a number plate. I'd tell her to invest in a dash cam for future.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 08/06/2025 06:52

I’d report as may be able to get info from cameras in the area.

That’s what I thought

You have your own licence plate. The traffic cameras can pick your DD up and look at the vehicles around her.

Good to report.

hiddeneverythin · 08/06/2025 06:55

Definitely report it. If he’s done it to her he will do/will have done it to someone else

Ponoka7 · 08/06/2025 06:55

My city is well camera'd, so it would be worth reporting. Her's might not be the only report and after a couple of reports, they will look into it. But she should get front and back cameras.

As much as drivers like this should be punished, the police just don't have the time to follow up stuff like this especially when there is no injuries or a collision.

If they followed up every instance of terrible driving they wouldn't have time to do anything else, it's terrible on the roads at the minute but without traffic cops actually being on the road it won't get any better.

whynotmereally · 08/06/2025 06:59

Definitely report but for future reference if they had a phone in the car they should have rang the police during the incident.

ButterCrackers · 08/06/2025 07:01

Definitely report. In case of agression drive to the local police station / check that your dd knows where this is.

Better to report and leave it for the police to decide whether it’s worth their time to follow it up. These incidents are rarely isolated, and next time they could cause serious injury.

Do you have an online website that you can report this on for anti social driving. In Sussex we have operation crackdown for this. I reported someone with dashcam footage and they were prosecuted.

It's not just " terrible driving".
It's targeted aggression and threatening behaviour.
Yes she definitely should report it.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 08/06/2025 07:09

Thanks everyone I’m going to pursuade her to report. I wasn’t sure if I was being OTT but as others say it might not be just her and someone needs to do something or it will keep happening.

What an absolute bastard. It infuriates me that he’d do this to a young woman, and not another man.
I would report it for sure. They may have had other complaints about this driver and your daughter’s experience will form part of the overall jigsaw.
Hope she’s ok.
