to think the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian bombers deep in Russia using trucks nearby shows how vulnerable UK bases could be

Trucks with drones in them. The crates open up near a base deep in Russia and target bombers.

I was watching a film where a similar attack happened on a US President. A swarm of drones in a truck near the President. With facial recognition technology in them.

And now drones have fibre optic cables to stop jamming as well.

I think it would be amazingly easy to replicate that attack in Europe and the USA. It's a whole new world of relatively cheap warfare. And worrying too.

How the US could be vulnerable to the same kind of drone swarm attack Ukraine unleashed on Russia’s bomber fleet | CNN

Ukraine’s shock drone strike on Russia’s strategic bomber fleet this week has generals and analysts taking a new look at threats to high-value United States aircraft at bases in the homeland and abroad – and the situation is worrisome.

The last 2-3 years has been a bit of an eye opener with regard to drones, but last weekends events really will have set alarm bells ringing.

I'm not sure the worry is mainly about protecting individuals,.it's protecting physical assets that can't be hardened (e.g
Large aircraft, dock areas), and the other concern is the technology is so (reatively) easily available so it 's an attack method open to anyone or any group with a bit of cash, not just nation states.

BTW fibre optics aren't a panacea and have limitations,.but certainly complicates counter measures.

It will have done.

And it could easily be carried out against any fixed infrastructure and physical assets.

It's a concern, but I'd be pretty sure the Military and other agencies worldwide have been watching developments with interest (quite a few papers have come out of various institutions about drone use as a result)...

The scale of last weeks attack was a bit of a jaw dropper, but Russia has vulnerabilities to such actions that maybe the UK and certainly the US might not have (tempting fate I Know).

UK wise I'd be more concerned about smaller scale actions by terrorist groups - and such is hardly new, the IRA mortared Heathrow in the 90s..but mostly missed.

I think that our main vulnerability is that we don’t have very much equipment (or personnel) to start with and any attack like this would cause losses that would affect our capabilities

Turns out you just need an electric scooter and some paint 🙄
