Does anybody believe in manifestation ?

I have a question about setting an intention but despite being guided to let it go , I’ve also been advised to live that intention as though it’s already happened and now I find that I’m fiXated on that intention.

OP posts:
IfIDid · 07/06/2025 10:15

Who or what is ‘guiding you’ to let it go, OP?

GoogolB · 07/06/2025 10:16

I have manifested this answer: No, it’s bollocks. HTH.

ObelixtheGaul · 07/06/2025 10:24

I'm not really sure I actually understand what manifestation is, to be honest. It seems to me to be a reworking of good old fashioned positive thinking. 'Believe it and you can make it happen' sort of idea.

PermanentTemporary · 07/06/2025 10:25

No.

ChaToilLeam · 07/06/2025 10:25

Sorry, load of rubbish.

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 07/06/2025 10:25

It's a load of shite.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 07/06/2025 10:28

I haven't tried it, but apparently it has worked for many. I believe it is mainly determination, grit and taking up opportunities without fear.

Sort of agrees with what I thought it was. By the sounds of it, It's not really anything new, it's just another way of wording the basic principles of believing in yourself and projecting confidence.

GRCP · 07/06/2025 10:32

What is the intention?

everythingthelighttouches · 07/06/2025 10:36

What do you want and what steps are you taking to get the thing you want?

FloraBotticelli · 07/06/2025 10:37

I manifest every morning. I feel hungry, I think about what I want, I make it and eat it. That’s all manifestation is.

People get in a tizz about how to apply it to bigger needs/wants/dreams, because we doubt, self-sabotage (which is actually self-protection btw), and ingrained contrary beliefs or early childhood programming gets in the way etc.

That’s where the manifestation gurus come in and over-complicate it. (Often driven by their own life anxiety/need to make money etc).

If you’re having problems making bigger dreams come to fruition I recommend therapy and Abraham Hicks talks on YouTube. They’re the real deal.

ThatGreatMember · 07/06/2025 11:07

No

KarolKickie · 07/06/2025 11:09

Yeah actually. Has really worked for me in an amazing way. I don’t ask for random stuff and I give thanks when I remember to but….. have a pretty peachy life.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 07/06/2025 11:12

Manifestation, cosmic ordering, etc. it's all the same rubbish. If you want something badly enough you'll make it happen whether through getting together the money for it or determination to work towards it.

OP - have you been after something that's just not possible or obsessing in an unhealthy way, or both?

TeachMeSomething · 07/06/2025 11:12

I do. I think my favourite manifestation was when I wanted to live in the Lake District. (My ex had had a boat on Windermere and I really missed being on and around the lake.)

However, property is expensive there and I didn't want to go through the rigmarole of applying for jobs and then trying to find accommodation to rent if I was successful.

I found myself wondering one day how I could move to the area without buying a property/it costing me a fortune to get there but put it to the back of my mind as I had other things to think about at the time.

A couple of days later, I was helping a student with some job search activity and I saw a job advertised in Windermere that was a good match for my skills and came with a two-bed flat thrown in. The only problem was that the deadline for applications had passed. I was a bit disappointed but dropped the company an email saying that I was really interested and could they let me know if they didn't fill the position.

Long story short, they didn't fill the position. A week later it was advertised again. I applied, went for an interview and before I even got to the station to get the train home, I had a phone call to say I'd got the job and could I start in a month's time? One month later, my house was rented out and I rocked up to Windermere for just the cost of the moving van (and a skip when I was clearing my house ready for the move)!

Isn’t this just a lucky coincidence though. It doesn’t seem as though you truly ‘manifested’ it as that would be more if you made regular affirmations, had a vision board, journaled, meditated etc. You however, were sad about missing something, gave a little thought to how you could possibly make it happen and then parked it because you were busy. By chance a job advert came up which suited your skill set and so you got it.

Like said, it’s fantastic you got what you wanted but I do think it’s a stretch saying you manifested it.

I learned about Law of Attraction right at the end of the 90's. I had been around LoA peeps/communities for years when I got the job in Windermere. When you've had a lot of experience, you don't tend to need to go to all the bother of affirmations, journalling, etc. It can really be as simple as thinking about something you want and just letting it go and it shows up.

I know it's difficult to believe that it can happen like that and I'm sure there'll be a lot of doubters on this thread but idc about that. If you know, you know!

Fair enough! ♥️

Crispynoodle · 07/06/2025 11:34

Of course not!

Ethelflaedofmercia · 07/06/2025 11:35

I do in someways yes

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/06/2025 11:36

No, it's utter nonsense.

Grapewrath · 07/06/2025 11:40

Yes- it’s worked for me in many ways. I won’t get into it on here because a lot of posters find it triggering. I’ve been manifesting since being child and when I heard about LOA in the 90s I was like, oh that’s what I do! I had a pretty awful childhood but also did some pretty axing manifesting to get out of it.
The intention thing works as set it and forget it ime. Like another poster said, lots of people over complicate the process to monetise it. Living as though what you have is already yours is a trend, but the reality is you have to become the person who would have whatever you’ve manifested. So, if you are trying to manifest money, you won’t have any results if you constantly complain about being skint. If you want to be healthy, live as a healthy person would- don’t complain about being overweight etc.
The more you focus on what you don’t want and the problems, the bigger they become. That’s not about any woo, it’s common sense. A lot of manifesting isn’t woo at all, it’s having a positive mindset and taking action towards your goals.

ouch321 · 07/06/2025 11:45

I'm not a gullible idiot so no.

It's all a money making exercise designed to prey on people's insecurities, their belief in a possible higher being and just a wish for things to somehow be better.

Very amused by someone up the thread saying 'If you know, you know'.

EnidSpyton · 07/06/2025 11:49

I totally believe in it from the perspective that it's about being intentional about what you want. It's the identifying what you want and making getting what you want a priority which makes you more aware of and more switched on to noticing and responding to opportunities that will get you what you want.

It's worked for me throughout my life. Once I have identified a goal and focus my energies on achieving it, believing I will get it, I do, because I'm suddenly in a 'yes' mindset and I am looking for ways to get to what I want in a much more proactive and open-minded way.

The reason many of us don't have the lives we want is because we spend our time idly wishing for things to be different rather than identifying what we want to change and then doing something about it.

That's all manifestation is, really. I think it's commonly misunderstood as some kind of woo in which you dream about what you want, sit back, and then you expect it to magically appear without you doing anything. I agree with other posters that people trying to monetise it and turn it into some kind of process where you have to buy into programmes that give you workbooks and videos to watch and so on is exploitative. Some people do seem to sell it as a kind of magic in which you just wish for what you want and the 'universe' will then give it to you, which is obviously nonsense.

NeedForSpeed · 07/06/2025 11:50

Manifestation is no different to prayer.

Crack on, just don't involve me.
