Is this job advert off putting?

What do you think if you read a job description like this?

“They need a multitasker, someone who loves managing multiple projects at once, thrives in constant change and has the adaptability to succeed in this type of environment.

You’re responsible for fixing, solving, thinking on your feet and putting out fires! Therefore this needs a “get it done” individual, a proactive approach, someone who will enjoy a young, energetic team and bounce off the dynamics of the people around you.”

Sounds like you’ll be overworked with no resource
putting out fires = no forward planning and everything is a shit show
“young”?!?!
massively off putting advert overall

BobbyBiscuits · 06/06/2025 15:26

It sounds like a troubleshooter type role where you're brought into try and turn around failing teams/departments.

That in itself might not put off the right kind of candidate but it doesn't sound like my cup of tea.
Basically disciplining a load of young inexperienced workers in a chaotic team that has been failed by upper management.

I guess if it paid really well?
Otherwise it doesn't sound the best.

KurtansCurtain · 06/06/2025 15:28

There’ll be too much work for not enough money, no deadlines until the deadline is next week, then you’ll be bollocked when you don’t hit it.

AndyouWILLATONE · 06/06/2025 15:29

Yeah, it's a no from me.

Fingerpie · 06/06/2025 15:29

Surely it depends on what one is job hunting for? Will appeal to some, won’t to others

5128gap · 06/06/2025 15:29

Very. The purpose of a job advert is to sell the job's desirability to the largest possible number of suitable people, so you have a good pool to select from. It should contain a lot more about what the job is offering rather than what the employer wants. That part comes later once youve got people interested enough to request the JD/PS. At first glance it looks like a jack of all trades type job where you'll be expected to fix a lot of problems while a bunch of young people bounce around being more enthusiastic than helpful.

Thanks everyone. I felt it was very off putting as well but wasn’t sure if it was just me. I clicked on it because the money is 5k-7k more than what I’m on now (per year, not month) but something about the advert doesn’t seem appealing

Anything else off putting?

There isn’t much more to the advert! It’s more of the same, saying there’s progression and the opportunity for more work. Doesn’t really say much about the role or what it’s doing, just what they are looking for

coxesorangepippin · 06/06/2025 15:50

Yes it's off putting

What's in it for me???

Emilysmum90 · 06/06/2025 15:52

Sounds absolutely horrendous and very much like one of those jobs where your line manager makes up your job description depending on what they need that day and you end up doing everything. Either the upper management or the clients are walking nightmares. Possibly both.

Have you checked them out on glassdoor?

Goditsmemargaret · 06/06/2025 15:53

I would like that job. So I guess it's serving it's purpose in that it's vetting applicants; anyone who doesn't love a busy, challenging environment won't apply.

And the job title also doesn’t make that clear?

if appealing hours, location and pay…. Then I wouldn’t discount on one badly worded paragraph

Ouzz · 06/06/2025 15:54

Sounds like my kind of job to be honest. Love that kind of thing. I hate forward planning though 😂

Although just seen the salary and they can’t afford me. Might be that they are asking too much for £34k

SeventeenClovesOfGarlic · 06/06/2025 15:54

Sounds awful, and they have nothing to offer except stress and chaos.

WingsofRain · 06/06/2025 15:57

That is very similar to my job and definitely the type of thing I enjoy, but the “young” part is a complete turn off and borderline discrimination. I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.

BrightLightTonight · 06/06/2025 15:57

Sounds like a typical job in my experience. It really depends on what the headline role is. If it’s a data entry type role - not good. If it’s in a busy change department, would be good

blackbirdevensong · 06/06/2025 15:58

Sounds like a start-up, which is quite fun if you like a bit of chaos

Icanttakethisanymore · 06/06/2025 15:59

coxesorangepippin · 06/06/2025 15:50

What's in it for me???

A salary, I would think.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 06/06/2025 16:01

Sounds like they need someone to go in and sort out the present chaotic shambles, with no guarantee of any management back-up, and that things change so fast you'll never feel like you have actually finished anything before they move the goalposts. Again.

It's a 'No' from me.

SaintNoMountainHighEnough · 06/06/2025 16:01

Let me guess. Teaching?

Has the OP shared a salary? Can't see it for the life of me

hopingforthemillion · 06/06/2025 16:03

Sounds like my work 😏

Gwenhwyfar · 06/06/2025 16:04

Sounds really awful. Recipe for a nervous breakdown.
I also find the reference to a 'young team' to be really on the line of age discrimination. They haven't said YOU have to be young, but it's heavily implied.

I bet it wasn't advertised as being that bad though.
