Dear Mumsnet .. please bring this back.. I miss it heaps !

OP posts:

People get upset over what's said on Mumsnet?

Alexandra2001 · 09/06/2025 08:04

Ddakji · 08/06/2025 22:21

The answer to that is to ban the poster and remove their reactions, not remove the reaction.

No, the answer is to be proactive and remove the opportunity for people to be nasty.

Remember these "react" emojis are 121, no one else sees them and have the opportunity to call out the poster or for MN to delete etc.

Why can’t the poster who’s post is being reacted to report the post and ask MN to intervene?

We’re all grown ups here.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 09/06/2025 08:21

Yes we're grown ups and most of the time I'm sure people do just ignore or report.

But very serious things are discussed here sometimes. It's not just fun and games; in those situations where MN is an individual's only support line, it's best if people don't have to deal with trolling when they've disclosed something awful or are discussing something very difficult, and putting the onus on them to report it after the fact is the wrong way around.

It's really not that essential to be able to laugh at a post in the grand scheme of things.

LoafofSellotape · 09/06/2025 08:22

Alexandra2001 · 06/06/2025 06:29

No, it was used to ridicule people, i would use it to acknowledge a funny post but too many didn't.

Shame but as in life, a minority ruin it for the many.

And now it's gone people are using the heart to ridicule instead. Bring it back but make it public instead.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 09/06/2025 08:31

This is one of the reasons why long timers fought against reactions for such a long time, with good reason. This 1-2-1 thing was a compromise by MNHQ and it's worked out to be quite stupid, exactly like people said it would. But it was soooo important to make MN more like FB or twitter or whatever the fuck it's called now, or other sites. MN stood apart for so many good reasons.

Anyway.

Now that it's here, and some people love it so much, I do reckon it'd be best to make reactions public. I think it would like take out the sting of trolling a bit, somehow, and make it easier to ignore like you do with the saddos who laugh at everything on Facebook.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 09/06/2025 08:41

*likely (too late to edit!)

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2025 08:52

I don’t miss it in the slightest, but then it didn’t really work on the app anyway. Just generated annoying notifications that someone had ‘reacted’ without saying which reaction until I disabled that.
Don’t bring it back unless it’s public and fully works on the apps.

Yes, adults surely don’t need facile ‘reactions’.

😂 They get even more upset over facial expressions that only they can see. Bless them (or something).

My facial expressions while reading Mumsnet probably lean heavily towards 🤨🙄😏🥴 Just as well MN never gave us a full bank of reactions, eh.

LoafofSellotape · 09/06/2025 08:22

Seriously? Are you and your co-complainers sure you aren't taking offence where none was intended?

We don't have a 'care' or a 'sad' button. Like many others, I often send a heart to indicate concern, sympathy, that sort of thing. I do this because I know that being heard matters sometimes and I want to send a bit of love.

I refuse to stifle my empathy because some prickly sods are always looking to be offended.

Dear Mumsnet .. please bring this back.. I miss it heaps !

I’m going to sound probably really stupid here , but can someone explain to me please
All the emojis are on this , aren’t they ?
I always see them ..
I’m lost 🤷🏻‍♀️

GarlicMile · 09/06/2025 20:17

@Missj25, look at your post just now. You should see a little 'thanks' symbol 👏 underneath it. Only you can see that. If you click on it, it will tell you I sent it.

That's what they're complaining about, not the emojis you post in a reply.

I agree that if it’s here it should be visible.

Yes, somehow the MN original grin is ‘I’m laughing’ not ‘I’m laughing at you’

Haha, @LarkAscendings 😉

ButteredRadish · 09/06/2025 22:44

I disagree, it’s only used to mock people. I’ve posted about some really sensitive, personal things and had laugh reactions. I fucking hate it. I left Facebook over people laughing at injured animals/children etc.

If you read back you'll see I'm not a complainer,I merely pointed out the heart is being used instead. I don't think the laughing emoji should've been taken away. If people are so upset about someone being a twat on the Internet then they should close the lap top and go out for a walk.
