Attending a job interview that I don't feel I have much experience in

I'm preparing for an interview and I'm just wanting to cancel. I don't have project management experience, they said it would be adventitious. Also other things.

I don't know why they are interviewing me :(

Help

I have lost my confidence

Think about experience you have that has transferrable skills. Don't worry about what you aren't able to do - go through the job description and PS with a fine tooth comb, identify all of the essential and desirable statements and come up with experiences for each of how you've demonstrated them.

In my experience, that's been far more successful than just saying "I've had this role before".

Your application must have been good enough. Maybe they didn't get any with actual experience.

In theory do you know how to manage a project of that type? It's usually just planning, estimating times, milestones, etc. It's fine to say you'd consult with the project team for activities, times, order etc so really you just need to write them down.

It'll be good to just do an interview. Never back out, there's always something to learn from it.

Best of luck.

A bloke would never apply and then get the internal squirms when someone said “ooh, I like what he says he has to offer. Let’s interview him “.

SandyY2K · 05/06/2025 00:24

Why did you apply for the job of you dunt think you can do it?

Did it have a job description and person specification? If so, do you feel you met a good percentage of the requirements?

Project management, probably wasn't an essential requirement, but a desirable one, so if you're experienced in other areas relevant to the role, then that's okay.

I would recommend utilising ChatGPT for interview prep. You put your cv and the job description into it and then ask it specific prompts - Google chatgpt interview prep prompts. You don’t need to use verbatim but it gives you ideas on how to approach interviews and how to sell your skills to common interview questions. It is a confidence boost to be prepared. Either way, always go to the interview - you can always use more interview practice! Good luck!

Think like a bloke. If they have asked you, they are interested in what you have to offer.

Transferrable skills. Project management is not something you can’t learn as most of life involves project management of some kind.
