Do you think some of these people who refuse to eat local food on foreign holidays, never actually tried it?

I suspect that this woman and similar who refuse to eat 'that foreign muck' has not even sampled it. A friend's DF (no longer with us) was like this woman. He even didn't want to know about Spanish omelette which is omelette with onion and potatoes. He ate onion and potato in a savoury pasty or pie. Eggs he ate in various forms.

Well, I'm not on any other thread and I can talk about my granddad who loved egg and bacon pie but thought quiche lorraine was a disgusting foreign invention. So it may be widespread.

I grew up an extremely picky eater and I'm now far less so, and forcing myself to try new things abroad was part of that.

I was the same, apart from spuds never are veg until in my 20s. No diary,no fish no fruit (still don't eat fruit because I genuinely don't really like it). It's pissed my dad, the greengroucer off!

I have tried lots of foreign food. Most I enjoy. Fave cuisine Italian, love Indian, Mexican is ok, as it Thai and Chinese, French is hit and miss in my opinion, German is great.

I really really hate fish and shellfish....it's both the taste and texture.

Why did you only eat potatoes till your 20s?

Because I was a lucky eater who thought they didn't like veg...love peas, swede, parsnips now. Not a fan of broad beans or cauliflower now I've actually grown up and tried them.

Never understand why people travel abroad & then eat British food. Surely one of the reasons to travel abroad is for new experiences and that includes the food?

I had a neighbour who's DH was strictly a traditional meat & two veg type. He died & she blossomed - she started eating pasta, curries (Indian, Thai), went on holiday to Spain & came home raving about tapas. She also learned to drive (he wouldn't let her drive), started going to salsa classes, did her hair differently, started wearing different clothes. Eventually she sold the house, moved to Spain & hasn't looked back.

He trapped her. Made her to be a ‘traditional’ wife who cooks, cleans and washes
