Feeling nervous in the morning

Does anyone else get this?

I’ve started to wake up with an anxious feeling. I remember feeling it when I worked full time teaching, I don’t do that anymore and my job is less and later in the day

It’s a horrible way to wake up

I'd try and lean into it rather than suppress it. Feel it, think about where exactly in your body the feeling is located, and sit with it for a bit. Then see if you can think about what might be causing it. It sounds as if something in your body is trying to tell you something?

I sometimes have this feeling. It's a rubbish way to have to start the day.

I find it helpful to write down what I'm feeling anxious about or what I have to do that day that might be worrying me. It usually helps me see that actually it's all fine.

What age are you OP? Anxiety is very common as you enter perimenopause.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 04/06/2025 09:25

I got that daily when I was working. Going back to work soon and I'm dreading it! Such a miserable way to start the day and days so much about how you feel about your existence.

LavenderBlue19 · 04/06/2025 09:28

Yes, it's horrible. In the past I've taken beta blockers to suppress it, they help to stop the feeling spiraling. (I am prone to panic attacks so it was to prevent it turning into panic.)

It might be a surge of adrenalin - your brain is thinking you need to get up and busy but is over doing it. Can you get out for a brisk walk or dance around to let the body shift it?

Nutsabouttopic · 04/06/2025 10:00

It can be a symptom of menopause or perimenopause. It's to do with hormone levels dropping.

I went through a period of waking up really early feeling nauseated, heart racing, anxious (stressful time with many things) it was bloody horrendous.
I started listening to YouTube guided meditations when going to sleep and quit alcohol. Also changed my morning routine about a bit. Worth a try if you haven’t already

Yes!!!! Every day. Idk why but it’s horrible. Wake up about 4.30am and can’t get back to sleep and my mind dwells on everything that’s wrong in my life and feels helpless and hopeless and like it’s all my fault.

NotWorthTheHeadache · 04/06/2025 13:16

Yep, me too! Had this for a few years in my early 30s, morning anxiety is not uncommon. Mine was linked to work related stress. Unfortunately I ended up on antidepressants for a couple of years which got rid of it. I would definitely try the other suggestions by PP above like guided meditations, quitting alcohol etc first plus exercise, fresh air, good diet, enough water, maybe some therapy but medication definitely did help me.

YumYumBerry · 04/06/2025 13:19

Yep it’s our lovely hormones. I’m early 50s and it started happening from my mid-40s. I’m on HRT and take an antihistamine every night which helps a bit. Plus I always get fresh air first thing walking dog or a run helps me a lot. Or yoga forcing yourself to focus on breathing and being present can help. The feeling passes as I slowly get on with my day.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/06/2025 13:22

Yep op. Menopausal woman here. Never had it before.

YellowBun · 04/06/2025 13:23

It’s anxiety. Anti depressants help.

NoraLuka · 04/06/2025 13:28

I have this but I know it’s because I’m stressed about DD. I found it helps to go running first thing, then have a shower and breakfast. Otherwise I would just sit around drinking multiple coffees and feeling nauseous until it’s time to work. On days I don’t go running I still get up early and do something like clean the kitchen or bathroom, I think it’s starting the day with something quite active that stops the worrying.

Obviously there are some days where I can’t be arsed with any of this!
