Nervous about Septoplasty

Hi,

I’m due to have Septoplasty next Tuesday and the reality of it being less than a week away I feel so anxious.

I’ve had a c-section previously but for some reason I’ve got it in my head that it’ll be more painful to have the Septoplasty done

I had quite a complex septorhinoplasty after smashing my nose up. The pain itself wasn’t too bad, but the recovery was more uncomfortable than I expected due to allergies and more swelling than was usual. A septoplasty on its own would be a lot easier I’d think. I was discharged with cocodamol.

I don’t think it’s comparable to c-section pain, it would be like comparing a sore throat to ear ache - both unpleasant but in different ways.

Happy to help with any questions if there’s something specific you’re concerned about.

@GenAvocadoOnToast thank you for the insight.

How would you rate the pain on a scale of 1-10? Anything that helped recovery? How long did your recovery take? When did you return to work and did you have to have a post op appointment - if so how long after?

I had mine done years ago. I remember it being quite uncomfortable straight afterwards, as I had to get used to the feeling of my nose being packed. I bled quite a bit and it took a while to get it under control. I don’t remember the recovery being particularly long or traumatic. It was all worth it to be able to breathe properly in the end!

good luck for your surgery.

I had mine done years ago. I'm a wuss with pain, and it was no issue at all. I remember my nose aching a little when whatever drugs I had at the hospital wore off, but that lasted less than a day. I had over the counter painkillers and I didn't feel the need to get anything more - just felt a bit like a typical sinus-ey headache at times, something I was very used to!
I do remember it being uncomfortable as my nose was packed with gauze and cotton wool, but it was just a bit weird rather than painful. I think I was signed off work for two weeks and I asked work if I could go back sooner as I felt fine and I was bored!

Once everything had healed I felt amazing. I had a severely deviated septum (born/grew that way, so didn't know any different) I had no idea how much it affected my breathing, especially at night. I felt so rested in the mornings and had so much more energy. It was transformative. Hope you get a similar result!
