Is it really worth it?

I’m currently on maternity leave not due back for another month. I have nine keeping in touch days like to use however the last one I took there was only three hours of work for me. I’m paid minimum wage and can only do weekends at the moment due to childcare. I’ve been asked to use another keeping in touch day soon, however, I’m worried that once you factoring petrol etc it’s hardly worth doing what does everyone else think please?

I assume it's a requirement and not optional? So if you want a job to go back to then you'll just have to do what's expected.

I don't really know how KIT days work, admittedly.

No they are optional I’m taking them for extra money as im not being paid now hence why im asking if its even worth it when you factor in everything. If it was mandatory it obviously wouldn’t be a question

KIT Days are optional, for your benefit to Keep in touch with what's happening whilst you're away, help the transition back into work...

Not to be confused with "come in, do some work, help us while youre still off" days.

Not compulsory, up to you. Do you feel you need a KIT day? what has changed, what been going on at work?

This statement has me.. it smacks of come in, do some work, help us while youre still off - we need the cover ..

If its a pain for you to go in childcare etc, and its not for your benefit, then don't go. If you need/want the money - thats different.

Fair enough then, I wouldn't bother. Absolutely not worth it.

It absolutely is. I work as a housekeeper in a hotel so unfortunately it’s not so much of a let’s catch up it’s a come back and work because we need the staff. Very rubbish pay and you very much earn the money. The reason I ask if it’s worth it is because i won’t be returning to the job after maternity leave so I’m wondering whether it would be worth getting the money now while I can as I don’t know how long it will take me to find another job. Even if it is just peanuts?

With the best will in the world no-one here can answer this.

If you know your finances are low and you need the money, then you'll have to do it?

I appreciate your answer. It’s not that my finances are low as I have savings however I know that savings don’t last forever and if I’m looking for another job I don’t know how long they will last if you understand. I know that 4 hours pay won’t make a big difference but I suppose it is better than nothing. All of your responses are helping though thank you
