To feel really drowsy after lunch? I thought it was just me but I’ve just read it’s totally normal and everyone gets tired after lunch!

🤣……laughing a nice way of course ! not at you for being in a coma ( phew efforts to not offend )

I think they’ve removed the laughing face as a reaction emoji 🙄

I do agree with that.
But I wanted to make sure you took mine in the right way. It occurred to me you might think I was laughing at you being in a coma ….

Every single time I’ve had pizza for lunch, I end up in a coma!

Every single time l've had curry for lunch, l end up in a korma!

So I had gestational diabetes and was told it’s because your sugars go high. It makes you drowsy while your body is trying to process especially with carb heavy lunches.

The absolute worst thing to do is reach for a coffee or chocolate bar or something that just compounds the problem.

Go for a short walk and you will feel much better - burns a bit of sugar and gets you normal.

This advise has worked for me ever since. Or go low carb for lunch.

If you go to conferences, the first slot after lunch is called the Graveyard slot because of this. .

😂 Appropriate!

I use to struggle with this and reactive hypoglycemia but a change in diet has significantly helped both

Sera1989 · 03/06/2025 17:57

I don’t experience this, I actually feel more perky after lunch and thought that was normal! But my boyfriend gets really sleepy especially if he’s eaten a lot of carbs. Thankfully he has a job where he can get sleepy in the afternoon but I don’t

It can be avoided with the right food choices

I found that it couldn't, so I now intermittent fast during the day, exceptI gave a coffeefirst thing. It stopped the afternoon slump.

MounjaroMounjaro · 03/06/2025 17:59

I was doing Slimming World once and wanted to keep going over Christmas. I didn't have any roast potatoes or any dessert and felt fine. Everyone else was asleep within an hour!

that's true for me, but it's more about quantity and being active than anything else.

If I eat too much and can't be on the move, I am ridiculously sleepy. If I eat in moderation, or being active, I am absolutely fine. I can't start doing jumping jacks in the middle of the office so no over-eating.😂

They need to reinstate it immediately 😠 I want to show appreciation for the funny fuckers on here.

I find controlling my carbs at lunchtime helps. If i ate something that was mainly carbs I would definitely fall asleep.

GreyCarpet · 03/06/2025 19:42

I stopped eating carbs at lunchtime about 20 years ago because of this. I spent my 20s thinking there was something seriously wrong with me because I just couldn't stay awake after lunch ad would sleep (or needed to sleep) for most of the afternoon. Cut out carbs - problem solved!

Might be worth a try.

Same, coffee never stops me sleeping, apparently is a sign of ADHD (but sure so is everything now a days)

A friend of mine whose kids have all diagnosed with adhd told me once that she never feels as chilled out and able to think straight as after she has had a large can of Monster.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 04/06/2025 05:00

Coffee relaxes me, and I often have one if I wake early( like now!) then go back to sleep
No idea if I have ADHD but my brain is fucked due to my CP so who knows.
" Carb coma" is a real thing and why Siestas are usual in Mediterranean countries
