Baby not getting his prescription for dairy free milk formula

I have an 8 month old baby who was diagnosed as a newborn with cows milk allergy and given a prescription for special milk.
I have to put a repeat prescription in every time we need some and this time it was rejected as he needs a clinician review which I’ve just got through by text for the end of next week. I am running out of milk so I’m starting to panic as he’s never needed a review before, he was trialed on milk shortly after diagnosis around 2 months and told he’d be on this milk until he was 12 months.
Many times his prescription has taken too long to arrive at the pharmacy or they could only get half the order and we’ve had to get emergency milk from 111 and now we have had his prescription rejected until after his review. It’s a prescription milk he needs so I have no way of feeding my baby. Anyone else have any experience of this review? What to expect?

Phone and ask to speak to GP

Usually our review is a weight check to see how much the target fault should be and if prescription needs upped- this is for high calorie milk though.

We've had a lot of issues with the prescription milk lately though so now it comes directly from supplier. Prior to this, if needed our local children’s ward gave us enough to see us through ☺️

You can buy the milk if you run out and can't get sorted

I was told you couldn’t buy it without prescription.

That’s interesting that it could be about his weight, although this is a phone appointment.

They sell it on amazon. Im sure a pharmacy can sell it if you pre paid before ordering

UncharteredWaters · 03/06/2025 12:15

Its just a formality - often the type changes at six months etc.

if you think you havent enough, ring reception and ask can a shirt supply be issued to tide you over until the appt. That wouldnt be an issue to us provided you have the review booked.

Usually the GP will give you another small prescription so you don't run out while waiting for a review, ring and ask? Yes it seems to be available on Amazon, so probably many places if you are running out, not cheap though.

On Amazon prime so you could get it next day.
