What’s a reasonable price increase; hairdresser

My hairdresser (who has a home salon) has just put her prices up from £115 (full head of highlights, cut and blow dry), to £140.

I knew a price increase was coming but I wasn’t quite expecting this uplift! Is this normal or would anyone else be shocked by this?

Depends on how long is it since she last put up her prices ? and I’m guessing she knows her value - £140 for what you have is still reasonable v many salons.

Swiftie1878 · 03/06/2025 12:45

Her salon. Her pricing strategy. Maybe she’s trying to get rid of a few clients?
If you don’t want to pay it, go somewhere else.

You’d have to look at some other hairdressers in your area to know if it’s normal. The new price seems decent to me.

Maybe she’s just completed a qualification or something? It’s usual to have different prices for different skill levels.

Mine has been increasing her prices by £10 every 3 months or so and it’s becoming a pain because she doesn’t pre warn and the last 2 or 3 appointments I’ve had to go to the cash machine for extra money out because she’s suddenly upped it again at the till.

If she does good work this price seems reasonable to me. (I am in the middle of nowhere, though the area is quite MC)

I appreciate that the increase is quite steep, however.

NoSourDough · 03/06/2025 16:14

She opened 2 years ago, so probably hasn’t had an increase yet. I have no problem with paying it as happy with the service, was just surprised at the £25 increase.

I think that sounds a lot. I have half head highlights, cut and finish, long hair and it costs £80. They increase it by about £5 a year.

Koalafan · 03/06/2025 16:18

It's over 20%, which does seem quite a lot tbh. Only you know it's worth it or not.

RobertaFirmino · 03/06/2025 16:40

It seems like a lot but I suppose the price of everything has gone up and that will include foils, peroxide/colours/toners, hairdressing tools, etc. too. Could you go an extra week between appointments? Depending on how often you go, it might help reduce the yearly cost.
