Thyroiditis? Please help interpret my thyroid results

I've had a sudden strange illness for 10 days now. It's involved horrible anxiety and panic attacks, insomnia, thirst and elevated heart rate.

I went to a&e in a panic, 48 hours after symptom onset (not like me) and my TSH level was 2.94 so I was told it couldn't be my thyroid though much of my symptoms matched hyperthyroidism (though it has happened very suddenly).

I ordered a Medichecks test kit before I knew they had tested my TSH in a&e. I took this test 4 days after the one above. The result is now back that my TSH was 4.58 (free T3 4.9; free thyroxine 19.3).

Could this be thyroiditis?

YABU - not thyroiditis (what else is it??)

YANBU - yes you've got thyroiditis.

Hi Pelvic. I had terrible thyroiditis and my TSH was <0.01 as suppressed by the high T4 (54) and T3 (14.5) and had terrible thyrotoxic symptoms.
Your results don’t look like your symptoms are from very high T4/T3. Did they suggest a possible cause for your symptoms?

Thanks @morey. I'm going to call and discuss with my GP tomorrow but anticipating they won't be very helpful.

I've come down with cold symptoms a few days after the first test. Perhaps a viral infection has caused the variation...?

Your TSH looks a bit elevated and your T3 potentially a bit low but I think that would be in line with hypo not hyper... Caveat that I'm a recent thyroid patient not an expert! You might be better off posting your results (include the lab ranges) on the Thyroid forum on Health Unlocked - that's my go to.

Have you had your thyroid antibodies tested? That way you could identify if you have Hashimoto's or Graves. Both of these can result in wildly varying levels of thyroid hormones in your blood stream.

It is really hard to know what the results of your blood test mean without the ranges posted as well. Have you ever had your thyroid levels tested before?

Thanks @Winterymix .

@MargoLivebetter my antibodies were within range. It's so strange how the TSH has increased so much in so little a time.

I'll try to add a pic of the results.

@Pelvicpaininthebum you probably ought to keep an eye on your thyroid going forwards. I think the likelihood of any GP doing anything on the back of your Medicheck results is very small. If your antibodies weren't raised that is a really good sign, as it means you don't have Hashimoto's or Graves disease. Maybe do another thyroid check again in a month's time and see where you are. A slightly elevated TSH is not likely to be the cause of your anxiety, insomnia, thirst and elevated heart rate. Did the hospital do any other tests?
