15 Billion for UK nuclear warhead programme

Just seen this and feel it’s absolutely obscene. What a huge waste of money. Starmer apparently wants to build more nuclear submarines too. I understand that defence spending is necessary but this seems far too much in the wrong areas? Surely it would be better to focus on other weaknesses as I assume cyber attacks would be more damaging and more likely than conventional?

It has been well documented that Putin has been quietly warned several times, by the US and China, that nuclear escalation would be a serious mistake. Interesting that you use the styling “the Ukraine” as well.

I have no idea what is interesting about that. Your paranoia perhaps? But "well documented" unevidenced gossip isn't fact.

It’s not gossip. Nor am I paranoid, and I have no idea why you would insinuate that.

Perhaps based on your reply? And of course it is gossip - everyone knows everything about what countries say to each other. That is why the conversations are top secret. About as reliable as whatever Williams third cousins best friend said about Meghan as reported by GB News. After all, it was hardly a "quiet warning" if everyone knows about it, was it?

‘If you want peace prepare for war’, especially when you have a hostile neighbour.

Might have been a good idea to not declare a Cold War on your own people too. Don’t think the baby boomer landlords will be defending the country.

Britain’s always had a navy so I suppose submarines are a place to start. If we had more faith in our country, if it had not declared a Cold War on everyone who doesn’t have an inheritance or the right family background (unless they’re foreigners in which case just lots and lots of money and who cares how it was obtained), perhaps we could have trained people to defend our country too, like the Finns. Who have a rather larger potential army than we do. Thankfully, while Russia is being aggressive again.

If the UK were to be attacked, I very much doubt it would be the kind of attack that this sort of spending will stop. This is, in my opinion, less about being prepared for war and more about generating a "war economy". It has long been known that wat and it's associated trappings produce strong economies - but only temporarily. As Tony Benn once said “If we can find the money to kill people, we can find the money to help people.” So why are we finding money to kill people in a war when we can't find the money to help people?

Starmer concentrated on the job creation aspect in his speech about the nuclear subs so I think you are correct.

We do need to improve our defence capabilities but 12 nuclear subs which will each take 18 months to build doesn't seem like an urgent measure when our government seems convinced we'll be at war with Russia in a couple of years.

An MP on Nick Ferrari said he belived that and stopped the fat old Brexit fecker in his tracks. So the rich will be sacrificing their ill gotten wealth first, willingly and with good grace whilst AI does a jobs holocaust, right ? For King and country - slumlords unite. The grooming and the gaslighting has begun.

Sometimes I feel like we're living at the start of the 20th century re: the naval arms race

As pps have said wars are caused by business men propping up deluded dictators.

Perhaps we should make it clear that if anyone dares to drop a tactical nuclear weapon then we'll set the whole lot off & cause the end of civilisation.

The Guardian said that a lot of money is being invested in drones too, I didn’t see that on the BBC.

Just send an army of covert snipers into Moscow. Take out Putin, take out his cronies, declare martial law, murder anyone with pro Putin/anti West sentiments and install a Western puppet government to run the place. Problem solved, in 30-50 years you'll have a fully-functioning democracy on the same level as any other european country. We should've done it long ago. The Russian elite could never be trusted at any time in history, and certainly not now. Wipe 'em all out.

I find your suggestions quite hopeful! Thanks!
Your ideas match Russia’s actions perfectly. They felt threatened by the proximity of nato military bases and, failing to resolve it by diplomacy, went for a regime change.
You think the same way, so you must be in a position to understand and find a way to peace.
