The gloss paint on alllllllll the doors, radiators and skirting boards. I think I counted 8 different colours on my stairs!

My walls were so bad when I moved in that I've had to plasterboard everywhere, there was no salvaging the walls. The council racked up 120 decorating hours in my house before I moved in because it was such a state, but all they had done was stick that horrendous anaglypta wallpaper over everything.

10 years on every room has been done and is looking amazing now.

Sometimes it takes a while, but you'll get there op.

Do you have a lifetime tenancy?

Yes, all of the council properties here are lifetime. The housing association ones have different rules I believe.

All my walls were badly stripped leaving shocking plaster and there was no flooring just cement or broken planks exposing pipes and downstairs ceilings.
I think I would have been tempted to put an 8th coat on top 😭

And life time tenancies don't exist any more to a PP.

Clearly my council has different rules.

Not HA.

Congratulations on your new house I'm sure it'll look lovely when you've finished and you'll be able to relax and enjoy it.

Then it's definitely worth the effort!!

My Aunt & Uncle have a bungalow as lifetime tenants. It's beautiful, they have put a lot of time, effort & decent money into making it so nice, it's worth it when you know it's your home forever! (Even if you don't own it! Their kids have all done ok for themselves & own their own homes, so not inheriting isn't an issue (and you never know if an owned property will get swallowed up in care home fees!!)
