To be so cross about being given a parking ticket after being gone 15 mins?

i know I should have bought a ticket but I parked in a large 1/2 full carpark to go in one shop. I was parked practically outside the door. I went in with my 2 ds (2 and 6) and was gone 15 minutes to find I had a parking ticket. The car park attendant must have been on to my car the second my back was turned. Is there any point appealing??

no you deserved it - tough

beansprout · 21/05/2008 17:04

No, sorry fellow bean, they've got you there.

tiredemma · 21/05/2008 17:05

I would say no point at all in appealing. You agree yourself that you should have brought a ticket.

No point at all.

LilRedWG · 21/05/2008 17:05

I empathise with you, but no use appealing what-so-ever. The ticket machine is there for a reason unfortunately - it annoys me that I have to pay for parking to pick up my DD's repeat prescription from the GP office. The only time I tried to get away with it a nice man ran in and warned me the attendant was on the prowl.

unknownrebelbang · 21/05/2008 17:06

My mother got a parking ticket once, and she'd been gone less than two minutes.

Irritating, but a fair cop.

What reason would you give for appealing?

In our town you can get a parking ticket even if you have paid - half the car park belongs to the council & the other half to a private firm & the ticket machines are back to back - if you pay in the wrong one, you get a fine.....

LittleBella · 21/05/2008 17:08

Yes of course YABU.

solo · 21/05/2008 17:09

you were trying to get change for the machine?

RustyBear, that's disgusting...

RainyWednesday · 21/05/2008 17:10

If it was a private car park then it's probably unenforceable - have a look at the Consumer Action Group forums on this.

How long you were parked for doesn't make any difference though tbh.

MagicMuffin · 21/05/2008 17:13

What does you being "parked practically outside the door" have to do anything?

You used the carpark for 15 mins, you should have paid for it. What a weird OP.

kid · 21/05/2008 17:16

I doubt there is any point in appealing, but if you did maybe you could claim to have gone to get some change. I really doubt you would win on that but its the only reason I can think of for not having bought a ticket.

yabu - there was no emergency they'd laugh in ur face if u tried to appeal sorry x

itsahardknocklife · 21/05/2008 17:36

You are being extremely unreasonable. You should have bought a ticket. You're not special. You should pay like everyone else.

RainyWednesday · 21/05/2008 17:36

Please someone listen to me! If you were on the road then yep, you don't have a hope, just pay up. If it was a private car park then you probably don't have to pay it.

I got a ticket a few weeks ago in a Euro car park (for Sainsbury's) - combination of rain/baby brain/not being my usual shop/big signs saying Free Parking meant I didn't realise I had to get a ticket. Did some research and so far have ignored it - so far they haven't even bothered to write to me to chase it so I assume that they know there's no point!

nobodyputsBBinthecorner · 21/05/2008 17:38

YOu parked there+didnt bother to pay and you expect sympthy?this is a tad silly!!! of course YABU

edam · 21/05/2008 17:38

Why are you cross? It's a fair cop - you tried to get away without paying but you were caught.

itsahardknocklife · 21/05/2008 17:39

Rainy, do you never buy a ticket then?

LuckySalem · 21/05/2008 17:40

sorry but they got you, you have to pay.

They are barstewards though.

Saturn74 · 21/05/2008 17:40

I think perhaps your opening phrase, "i know I should have bought a ticket" is particularly relevant.
