Should be more outraged at what I’d happening in Gaza?

It has been a long time since we looked at scenes like people being killed by the thousands and we are helpless to express our outrage. It is not the rights or wrongs of the wars I am concerned with now. All sides are beastly but this is 2025. Have we learnt nothing from the last two world wars. We, the citizens of the world should say, no- is primitive and barbarous to shoot or bomb civilians….morally we should stand up and demand that the good offices of the United Nations, international Courts the Red Cross and other organisations be respected and do their jobs of safeguarding the rights of non-combatants and civilians. The world is a dangerous place and we are so interconnected now that we have to care. If Trump can feel he can direct and control the finances of the whole world the we have to watch out. Today it’s Gaza or Israel tomorrow it could be us. Should we, especially us the women with children, watch the world go back to the dark ages. What can we do? Discuss

Does it help to be outraged, then? Are we thinking emotion is useful in this situation?

HangryLikeTheHulk · 31/05/2025 16:31

It’s disgusting. Tens of thousands of children murdered by the high tech weapons of a sophisticated first world state which cannot extend the kindness shown to them back when they were desperate to the people who share their borders. From settlers to white phosphorus bombs, it’s appalling.

The war in Gaza would likely cease tomorrow if Hamas released the remaining hostages, and the bodies of those they have killed. There should be massive pressure on them to do this. At the very least, they would take away one of the main reasons that Israel cites for its attacks. So can we see more outrage against Hamas please? Who use civilians as human shields and choose to prolong the suffering of civilians by refusing to release the hostages.

ACynicalDad · 31/05/2025 16:38

It’s awful, I’d have way more sympathy if they hadn’t taken the hostages/returned them immediately. The future should also bebe Hamas free.

There is massive power assymmetry between the military capability of the state of Israel, and the militants of Hamas.

Because of this, Hamas is forced to leverage hostages and human shields in order to address that imbalance. It’s unpleasant and disgusting, but it’s all the leverage they have faced with a nation state intent on driving them out of their homes.

You do realise that the people dying in Palestine have no control over what Hamas do? It’s the same with what happened in Germany, lot of German people who lived there did not support Hitler and no control over the army. Lots of Americans and Britains did not support the Iraq war. Lots of Americans do not support Trump.

ShiningStar3 · 31/05/2025 17:44

You can disagree with Israel's actions without calling for the destruction of the country. Netanyahu is abhorrent and many many Israelis cannot stand him. Lots of Israelis and Palestinians were working together for peace. At the end of the day it all comes down to religion and the superiority complex it gives people. And the women and children just pay the price.

@Didntask can't quote you but yeah any excuse to take against the Jews

This, and I have said so to all my hypocritical Muslim friends who have got up in arms about Gaza but were nowhere when Muslims were being persecuted in these places.

Nothing to do with being a hypocrite, maybe that’s who you happen to surround yourself with?

Muslims as a whole will always be against the oppression of any other Muslim (generalising of course as not everyone is perfect lol) but just because Palestine is getting more “airtime” NOW after decades of being oppressed (and arguably ignored) why does that mean it’s a bad thing?

Palestine has now given people more to think about when it comes to other oppression. I noticed Macklemore who is outspoken about Palestine openly said he is now learning more about Sudan and DRC. It’s a knock on effect.

Many Muslim countries are not providing aid or support to Palestine, so how is it a Judaism vs Islam issue? Highlighting pro-Palestinian activism as antisemitism is a mockery of antisemitism itself.

Israel is committing war crimes and many communities are currently facing oppression, Palestine just happens to currently be at an extreme level because of the weaponry Israel has access to. If Palestine is the start of people’s activism, that can only be a good thing - thank goodness, if it opens their eyes and hearts to speak up against other oppression too.

This is nothing to do with IDF vs Hamas anymore.

Yes, all the brave Jewish folk speaking up against Netanyahu the psychopathic war criminal must be…. Anti Jewish? Antisemitic? I don’t know, just plain old confused?

Forced?

AirborneElephant · 03/06/2025 18:15

In all honesty I’m way more concerned about what’s going on in the US than in Gaza. Gaza is one of over 100 current armed conflicts in which people are being killed daily, many of them women and children. The UN is powerless to stop them, and I certainly wouldn’t be in favour of committing UK troops on the ground there, would you? The US situation on the other hand has the potential to bring down the power of law and democracy in the largest armed power on the globe.

No one is ever forced to take hostages.
