Been in my house for 20 yrs, same as the people joined on in a semi.
I'm wondering if the woman is getting dementia as she's started shouting about us so we can hear her.
Today I was playing my music at a reasonable level while doing the garden, then my phone rang and music went off via Bluetooth. Anyway, she shouted out " you can put your fucking music back on now"
Her daughter told her to be quiet as we could hear and she shouted "I don't give a fuck"

I keep hearing her shouting with her family and arguing, but in the 20 yrs of living here she's always been polite and friendly and we always help each other out in certain ways etc.

I don't wanna fall out with her or them and I'm wondering if I may have upset them the other night when I was singing ACDC at the top of my voice after a few drinks.

I know I am probably BU, so how do I smooth iit over please?

Personally I think that any music played in a garden is anti-social unless you don’t have neighbours.

Singing AC/DC isn’t a great move either.

It sounds like you’ve pissed her off.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/05/2025 19:30

Take her some flowers by way of an apology. You’ll know pretty quickly if it’s more than irritation at enduring AC/DC if you’ve been a decent neighbour with no run ins for 20 years

Mistry solved. 😆

Very antisocial to play music in your garden, unless the odd party when there's going to be noise anyway. Why can't you wear headphones. And yeah, drunken singing, out of order.
Go round, apologise with flowers, do better.

Hadalifeonce · 30/05/2025 19:44

Perhaps pick a time when the daughter is there, go round and effectively say you hope you haven't upset her mother by playing music in the garden. She might tell you if there is a problem with her mother, or it will give you the opportunity to apologise if your music is the problem.

If all has been well for 20 years then this sounds very out of character for her. Cut her some slack. Invest in earphones, keep the noise down and keep a low profile. You don't know what she might be dealing with.

Buy some headphones…and stop singing.

Blodyneighbour · 30/05/2025 20:52

Thanks everyone
I am not one to fall out with neighours, as I think we should all do everything possible to get on with them.
I will speak with her when I see her next and apologise if I've upset her!!
