How much would I need for 7 days in a Air B&B Lake District

Hello everyone
I’m off on Saturday to the Lake District with a friend & we are staying in an Air B&B. My friend is driving but I am giving her half the petrol money. Just wondering how much I would realistically need for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks for 7 days there.
Thank you

Well it depends. Are you eating out or doing a big shop? Are you drinking? Are you having some meals at the air BnB / picnics and then evening meals out?

How long is a piece of string essentially.

Won’t you be eating breakfast in your accommodation? If so, I would do a shop there, and split it 50:50. Difficult to guess as you always add extras when on holiday, plus buy nicer food, treats etc.

Regarding lunches, I would budget £10-20 per lunch, and £25-50 per evening meal. Obviously costs depend on cafe or restaurant, whether you gave one or three courses, alcohol etc.

Don’t forget coffee and cakes costs as well.

It’s a lovely place. I went last year.

We always pop into the nearest big supermarket on the way, get a few things for at least 3 main meals, plenty of snacks, toiletries, breakfast stuff, drinks, we eat out then when we feel like it. Sorry can't say amount cos it does depend what you normally like but I'd suggest you chat with your friend to see what she's planning to do

Order a supermarket delivery to your Airbnb. Have a meeting with your friend before you go to decide on breakfast, booze, lunches etc then order it. You can control your budget more easily that way plus you won't have to faff around with shopping whilst you're there.

The Lakes is probs my favourite place in England. Enjoy!

If you are eating out loads I’d allow £350, less if you are going to cook in, do takeaways etc

If you are in the Lakes, you need to go to Booths. Best supermarket in the world. Ulverston, Kendal and Windermere all have a branch. Just buy yummy food from there and you will save a lot of money.

have a fab time, the Lakes are a wonderful place to go

Take stuff for breakfast. Snacks and drinks. Supermarkets can be few and far between in the lakes. Have a great time.

Rowgtfc72 · 29/05/2025 19:33

Second Booths.

Turmerictolly · 29/05/2025 19:42

Oooh yes Booths but it’s expensive. I’d budget £30-£40 for a dinner out with a drink included. £10-£20 for lunch out. Snacks, drinks £10. There are some very fancy restaurants to eat at and some very nice gastropubs which will cost quite a lot more.

cyvguhb · 29/05/2025 19:42

I haven't been to the Lakes for years, are the prices of food and eating out very different to what you'd pay at home?

Supermarket prices will be pretty much the same won't they and presumably eating out youd go to places that suit your pocket.

What if spend might be unaffordable to you or vice versa so only you can say really

smallstitch · 29/05/2025 20:44

Eating out is quite pricey in the lakes generally. If you’re trying to budget a bit I’d take stuff from home or do a supermarket shop - make packed lunches for when you’re out, or what we often do is have lunch out and cheese/biscuits/snacks in the evening (with wine!) Eating out twice a day will mount up.

smallstitch · 29/05/2025 20:46

I also take some stuff from my own cupboards when self catering - teabags/coffee/tins of tuna/beans etc

ML5 · 29/05/2025 21:06

We have decided to do a stopover at a Supermarket on the way there and stock up on food but mainly dinners & during the day we will have breakfast/lunch out.
