The worst I have had is men shouting stupid comments out of cars, no spitting yet thankfully but this is disgusting and scary. Why do they do it!?

I was running for the train in Aylesbury once and this driver shouted something out the car at me. I don’t think it was a compliment just by the tone, it sounded hostile. Thankful I didn’t hear it but think it was something like “faster” then I didn’t hear the rest.

And then a fair few blokes assuming that the spitters are of particular ethnic background or religion.

Thats the go to of some men to evade responsibility for men as a whole.

You get some women doing it too, who can’t face up to the fact people like their partners, brothers and dads etc may behave in a certain way or be labelled as such. They’ll just point and say it’s [insert race] men doing this 🙄

I think I've been lucky. I tend to run in woods or cycle paths though, so it tends to attract the generally health conscious, apart from the county lines kids. But they don't really want attention drawn to themselves.
I've never heard anyone shout when I've run on pavements, but my music is very loud. Been a couple of iffy moments over the years, but no spitting.

i haven’t experienced anything bad happening to me while running either and I live in SW London (now 50s but aside from the odd beep nothing when younger either) - I do tend to run early morning now and in green areas so maybe these a@rseholes are still in bed

I only run inside on a treadmill now because of men.

I hope each and every one of them gets beaten up or sexually assaulted by another man.

Having abuse yelled at me from two men in a car stopped me running for months. I felt humiliated and embarrassed by it.

This thread isn't about hating men, it's about women being abused by men in public for having the temerity to exercise outside.

All you've done is minimise the extent of the issue. If it's happening to many women, it's very very clearly not a miniscule number of men perpetuating this abuse.

Men don't want to fix it. For as long as these scum bags exist, men get put on pedestals as " one of the good guys" simply for acting like a human being. No effort to be anything special. They just dont have to spit at women or call us slags or yell out their car windows. And already they are abive a large percentage of the population.

I got kerb crawled by a man in a car when I was jogging. Kept pulling in just in front of me then stopping, over and over. Finally he flicked his cigarette butt out the window at me and zoomed off. Totally intentional.

A sad little man with a little life, who needed to feel that he could dominate over someone. Pathetic really.

Well we’re not allowed to make comments to or about trans, race,religion without being arrested -women are all that’s left.Unintended consequences.

Exactly. It’s not one man spitting at one woman. And even that would be one too many! But it’s many men spitting at many women in many towns and cities. And if they’re not spitting then they’re shouting, or throwing something. It’s not minuscule if most women can tell a story about a man making them feel unsafe.

I have noticed this.

Firstly men will reject out of hand what women are saying as false.

Then if they can blame it on a group of men of one specific ethnic group then, and only then will they happily critique their behaviour (I see similar with men who are obsessed with abuse of women when committed by trans women, but lose all interest when the perpetrator is a man.)

So what’s your argument? That we encourage the abuse to be spread more widely (also none of what you day is true. People receive abuse for their faith, their ethnicity, their gender identity etc. every single day.)
