Buying a second hand car

I am in a process of buying a second hand car. I found a car i really like that is 18k. The sales person hasn't discounted the car at all. Instead offered 1 year extended warranty. Now, I dont expect to get the car for free, but this is the third car we get from them so I thought it is strange they didn't offer anything a bit off the car.

Am I being unreasonable to expect some loyalty discount of about 500 quid?

Yes you’re being unreasonable. The price is the price. The warranty will be worth a fair amount (on paper at least).

They won't offer you a discount, but you could potentially offer them a lower price and see if they'll accept

If it was a mass seller, (likes of Available Car or similar) they can have issues with prospective buyers/ people just having a look around etc, changing the cost on the windscreen price placard.

Legally, they are not obliged to sell it to you for the price you saw displayed.

Either way, hope you managed to sort it out!

In the past it used to be the norm to haggle and get money off when buying a car.

These days with the internet, it’s very easy for buyers to compare prices. So garages have to price low to get the phone ringing. This means they don’t have any wiggle room left to knock any more money off

In my experience over the last few years there is very little wriggle room these days. I'd take the warranty unless you can show the same condition, year, milage etc is significantly cheaper elsewhere.

I've got history for getting the price down. But the last 5 cars i have bought (not all for me, DC etc) the best I have got is a tank of petrol.and extended warranty.
