To ask for a GP appointment for palpitations and pressure in my chest when I'm stressed(work stress)

Never had them before but I'm not sure if it's just because work is unusually stressful.

I'm 44 and my dad had a heart attack at this age which might be making me hyper vigilant.

Absolutely I'm sure it's nothing but they will likely do an ecg and a 24hr tape and blood tests and if they come back normal they will tell you it's stress

Most likely anxiety rather than anything serious. I've been there! But chest pains should always be checked out.

Do not ever let a job stress you out so much OP. I promise it's never worth it. Talk to your boss

Get a kardia mobile to do your own ecg when it happens!

I know I know you're right and honestly I've never been stressed by work which is why this is worrying me. Are there just more arseholes now??

Boss is sympathetic but actually quite slow to move work off my plate. The real problem is pushy guys who won't take "you need to work this out yourself" for an answer. I need to just start working my hours and hell mend folk.

Peri menopause causes palpitations too, when stressed.
Try not to be worried, book an appointment with your GP.

We all have a limit, and yes try doing your hours and pushing back. I've been in this situation and really regret not putting myself first. That anxiety type feeling that you can't escape everyday is horrid.

The GP might give you some help if they do think it's stress.

I think you're absolutely entitled to get a professional opinion when your body doesn't seem to be working as it should, which is the case here. That's not to say that there's a sinister explanation for the palpitations (anxiety aside, low iron can also be a cause), but worth getting that confirmed. I hope you're feeling better soon, OP - I've had them before and know they really can feel unpleasant.

I had chest pain this weekend and went to A&E , they were soon thorough. Had ECG, full bloods.

I disagree with blaming everything on Peri . Yes stress resilience goes down. The heart is a muscle that needs to be conditioned. Chest pain is a sign to make changes.

My DF had a heart attack at 75. Thankfully he is OK with a stent but was a wakeup call for me about exercise and diet, no excuses.

Walking is helping me a lot atm.

Even if it is 'just' anxiety, you can be prescribed beta blockers to help with stress/anxiety palpitations. I've had a similar situation and just took them for a few months so I could deal with the emotions that were causing the palpitations.

Yes I was having a weird sensation of heart racing sometimes (also quite stressed and also paranoid as both parents have had MIs) and bought a refurbished smart watch with an ECG which is amazing. Genuinely reassuring and honestly I think a lot of the symptoms are self-perpetuating (heart races and feels weird because I'm anxious about my heart and hyper conscious of it) so the reassurance genuinely helped the overall condition.
I should say I did also have an ECG by a dr but it wasn't at a time I was having acute perceived symptoms as they do come on quite randomly so a watch which can do one at any time is great, although obviously not a substitute for medical advice if you remain concerned.

Likely anxiety, but get it checked. Also low iron (common if you're a woman) can cause heart palpitations
