AIBU brother saying the N word

I was at my DB and SIL house for a family gathering when my DB (24) and DC (22) were talking about a show they had recently started watching called Snowfall. It’s about black people and drugs from what I know. DB quoted a line from the show to my DC that had the N word in it, trying to imitate the way the main character says it. I immediately told him he can’t say that and his reply was “I wouldn’t have said it directly or infront of a black person, I’m practically black myself” we are south asian and he is quite dark skinned but definitely not black. I left the house as I felt he was just being disrespectful at this point. I later received a text from my mum saying I was being overly sensitive and that he was just joking around with my cousin and he would never use that word in a bad way towards anyone no matter what colour they are. Was I being overly sensitive or not?

As if you need to ask. Of course YANBU. Totally unnacceptable language!

I'm not going to dignify the silly question with an answer.

But out of interest, what did the 22 year old cousin say about it?
