To put the only freezer in the garage at bottom of garden?

AIBU to put the only freezer in the garage at the bottom of the garden to create more space for a dining table in my kitchen?

Family of 4. Two small children. Will I regret it? Currently can’t all sit around the table as not enough space.

What about a fridge with a small freezer compartment in the top - keep frequent use stuff in there like ice cubes and peas with the rest, and fridge overflow in garage fridge freezer

I use ice often throughout the day so this would be a pain for me.

You need to ensure you can use it as an outside freezer - I’ve got one in the garage and when the temperature drops it switches off completely

There's such a lot you can't keep in there though, as it doesn't get really properly cold/very frozen. As I said, ice creams don't stay solid in there, and I would never put any meat product in there. It's OK for peas and fries/chips and waffles and the like, but the vast majority of stuff would need to go in the 'proper' freezer. Unless the OP and her family are going to live on chips and peas, she will still be going to the freezer outside/in the garage pretty much every day.

I’ve done this. It really really was quite a faff.

I brought stuff in and put it in the small freezer compartment in the fridge.

Don't you have to be careful with putting fridge freezers outside, due to needing differing temperatures?

This. There a very limited manufacturers that say their freezers can go in a garage ( we didn’t know this until we were buying one recently) our garage is integral and we’re still warned so be aware!

Will a fridge freezer be big enough when the children grow though? We had to get another freezer as a fridge freezer wasn’t big enough. We do have a lot of batch cooked frozen meals though.

Currently have a fridge freezer in the dining area (also not ideal as not that close to kitchen counters) but have a barely used tumble dryer that I could replace with an under counter fridge and free up a decent bit of space.

Put the tumble drier in the garage? Put a fold down table in the living room?

LadySouthStar · 27/05/2025 14:50

I would prefer to have a foldaway table in the living room personally
