I was put at risk of redundancy last week. The team is going from 6, to 4 and me and another colleague are those that have been put at risk. I’ve had a copy of the selection criteria and the process, but in my meetings of last week it’s become clear that (I don’t think), the process has been followed.
It clearly states that the line manager will do the scoring, with next level up ratifying those scores in conjunction with HR. Both my line manager and next line up have confirmed that my line manager wasn’t involved at all in scoring (he wasn’t even aware this was happening) - it was all done by next level up who really isn’t close to our team at all. I can’t really see how scoring can have been done fairly without input from the line manager who works with us in a daily basis?
I’m not sure there’s much I can do, there is a generous enhanced package and having told the 4 ‘safe’ colleagues they are safe, they clearly aren’t going to rescore everyone and change their minds. I can and will appeal, but the thought of going to tribunal isn’t appealing and I’m assuming an ET would simply agree process hasn’t been followed, but given the package is already generous, would they award anything further? I’m 50 and work in a niche, high paid sector, the chances of me securing a similar role at this point in my career are non-existent, but I still have a mortgage and bills to pay. I’m not a member of a union so don’t have them to ask for guidance. Do I just have to suck it up?
