Night shifts

If the father of your baby only
does night shifts working from home at a computer is it ok to tell them to look after the baby so you can get a full nights sleep

How often does the baby wake and how long for? Do you work during the day?

SilviaSnuffleBum · 25/05/2025 12:21

No, it is not okay; he is working.

Fyreheart · 25/05/2025 12:21

Of course not.

He is working, not off looking after his child

feelingbleh · 25/05/2025 12:21

No he's working

TinyTempest · 25/05/2025 12:22

No of course not, they're working.

It doesn't matter what shift they're doing.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/05/2025 12:22

Not ok. He’s at work.

Purpleturtle43 · 25/05/2025 12:23

Depends really on the nature of his work and how often and for how long the baby is waking. If he gets a break then maybe but I don't think you can rely on/expect it.

JockTamsonsBairns · 25/05/2025 12:24

I wouldn't WFH during the day whilst looking after a baby. I don't see why that would be different at night?

Why is he working nights from home though?
Presumably he sleeps during the day?
When is he doing his share?

Redglitter · 25/05/2025 12:32

Absolutely not. He's working.

Would you expect him to look after the baby if he worked day shifts

outerspacepotato · 25/05/2025 12:38

No. He's working and is expected to be, well, working and not dealing with child care.

He could lose his WFH position or his job if he tries to do both.

No it doesn't.

All workers should get a break.

And that shouldn't involve looking after a child during that time.

Whaleandsnail6 · 25/05/2025 12:55

Not if they are trying to work.

Its ok to share baby waking on partner's nights off but they should not look after Baby during work time.

I'm sure there are plenty parents who work from home that might help out with their kids during their lunch break. I know many people who work from home and take their break to do the school run for example. As I said, it depends on the circumstances. Many employers don't mind when you do your work/take your breaks as long as it gets done.
