To find colleagues actions a bit weird?

So we had to work today and I ordered us an UberEats breakfast - the driver dumped the meal at completely the wrong location. Colleague tried to call restaurant but basically there’s nothing they could do. I then reordered it.

She was telling multiple people that she rang up and demanded they send us out the food again and that’s why we got it (she knew full well I had re-ordered). It’s not the first time she’s done something similar.

I know it’s a non issue but I don’t get why people lie in front of people that know the truth ..

Yes, it’s weird. I suppose she’s not doing any harm but it’s really bizarre behaviour.

I work with someone like this ! I'm guessing they want to feel important that they "saved the day "

MustangBlue · 24/05/2025 15:48

Oh, she's one of ' those'. The ' I saved the day ' characters, who wants to impress on people how fantastic she is at problem solving and garner the attention she's so desperate for, despite actually not doing anything remotely close to the truth. I had a colleague who was exactly the same; I'd organised a leaving do casual meal/drinks things after work on a Monday ( i.e when most restaurants / bars are empty), but she insisted that she phone ahead and book a table as she was convinced the group of five wouldn't get in. We arrived to an entirely empty restaurant but she was quick to point out that she had saved the day and if it had been left to mustangblue, all of us would have gone home hungry. 🤔 in clearer terms, she didn't like me and wanted to bring me down a peg or two.

If you are absolutely sure that they didn't promise her they'll send the order again or something and she knew you reordered and paid again then she probably has very low self esteem and wants to feel appreciated by faking hero stories but the key thing is whether the restaurant actually told her they will fix it for her or not because she could be on the phone and they told her they'll fix it and you were also reordering at the same time, in which case she wouldn't be making it up.

SamsonsFeet · 24/05/2025 15:52

And whoever she spoke to might have told her they will fix it but then didn't so you still had to reorder or she got the wrong end of stick. It could be crossed wires all around.

No, I was right next to her and they told her there was nothing they could do and to contact Uber. I then said I’ll just reorder and try and raise a claim through the app.

I would find this irritating and would have to address it - I'd say with a completely baffled expression "why are you telling people the restaurant sorted it? I reordered it" and then say absolutely nothing till she replied. Even if it meant I never spoke again I would just let the awkward silence hang there.
