I was born early 60s. My family never had a TV. We did, however, listen to the Radio almost all the time. My earliest memories are "Listen with Mother" and The Archers. Also on Sundays "The Clitheroe Kid" and "Round the Horne"
"Two Way Family Favourites" . There was "Children's Hour" and "Junior Choice"
There was 'always' something on the radio in my childhood and the beauty of radio is that you can do something else while you listen. You can paint or draw, knit or crochet, build lego, do a jigsaw, do the housework, anything you need your eyes for. You can listen and build the picture in your head, of stories and characters.
When I got married at 20 I got a telly. Still didn't watch it much as I was 20 and had better things to do. In recent years though, I've looked back at the time I've spent just sitting staring at the screen and letting things unfold, letting my imagination wither but fortunately not quite die. I've taken things in hand by
cutting telly watching to virtually zilch except the News.
Gone back to my childhood and to "listening" while I get on with something constructive. Much easier nowadays with streaming and headphones and audible etc.
YABU: Nowt wrong with video games and telly. Fuck off with your holier than thou attitude.
YANBU: Yeah. I can see your point.
