Constant Dirt bikes in the garden and aggro

Our old neighbour has moved abroad and let her house and garden out to a family friend with 2 teenage sons in February. Ever since they have moved in the two boys ride motorcross dirt bikes/ old style petrol lawnmowers around and around the garden every evening from home time at school until 8/9 sometimes 10 pm at night. Big noisy petrol or diesel things that sound like they belong on a dirt track. It’s so noisy and horrible. We live in a busy village where all our gardens back on to each other.

We have asked the council informal noise advice they have told us to record decibels which we have done via an app they have exceeded acceptable limits but we don’t want to start a formal complaint it would impact us if we ever go to sell, however, they won’t listen to our polite requests to try and stop the noise after 7m.

has anyone dealt with neighbours who persist in using noisy equipment whether it’s diy power tools/motorcross bikes/ in a residential area ? It’s so stressful as all our neighbours who are affected are elderly and they have said to us they don’t want/scared of confrontation of going round to them to ask them to stop. I get the feeling they are known to cause problems locally. I think they just don’t care. 😞

it’s hugely impacting on us being able to use our garden because the noise is right beside us. It’s like living on the M25 when they have two of them going. Last night we had another night of it tonight with two motorbikes until 9.38pm 😥tonight we came inside at 8pm despite it being lovely for some peace.

Contact the LL

Record every instance, video, decibels, date and time then report to the council.
Can you talk to your other neighbours who might also be impacted? If they are ask them to do the same. Power is always in numbers.
Good luck.

Is the landlord aware they will be wrecking her garden. Pretty sure this would contravene a lease. Go to her first then the council if she does nothing. If it gets resolved then should you come to sell you’ll be able to provide a timeline to any buyers showing what the complaint was for and hopefully no longer an issue.

If you're not willing to report them then they won't stop.

I’d contact the landlord. Surely they’re breaking the terms of the tenancy? Mine had something relating to peace and quiet, not disturbing the neighbours etc.

Unfortunately the landlord is a very close friend to them and doesn’t mind what they do -(has property everywhere and I suspect doesn’t care if the garden is being used as a race track,) the landlord had planning rejected a few years ago to build a house in the bottom of the garden which backs onto 3 of our houses. The application was not something we commented on or even took issue with as we weren’t concerned about the build. It looked like a nice plan actually.

However after we chatted last night it suddenly clicked we suspect the landlord thinks all neighbours tried to stop planning hence have put in these people to irritate everyone!

You'll have to really, especially if there is no support from the LL. Surely its better than having new neighbours moving to an area with kids going round on bikes all the time?

I know you are probably right . I hate drama 😣 I wish they just didn’t act this way it’s a bit mad

Its either put up and shut up or take it further im afraid. This is truly horrible for you to live next door to. Im picturing a stereotypical scum bag family where talking in a normal fashion to them will not be welcomed.

They actually seemed nice I met the mum only once when she was offloading a shop from a car. Spoke very briefly and said nice things to her. Wave now and again when they are out the front. We don’t know them more than that apart from when my partner asked her partner if they would possibly be mindful of the noise from the vehicles in the evening. He was non committal and I heard on grapevine another neighbour asked them too.

all these bikes and quads the kids play on seem to be increasing. I wonder if the parents were in at all last night. Could have been boys being boys and trying to get away with it late into the evening whilst mum and dad not there.

That wouldn't be the case. As the person applying for planning they'd have already had full access to any objections so they'll know if objections were the reason for the decline. In my County you even get the full name and address of whoever leaves objections!
