Noone cares

Am I alone in thinking that nowadays noone really cares? For example, I had major surgery on the NHS which left me facially disfigured and in chronic pain. Through research I have since found out the surgery wasn't necessary. I have tried to seek help from the NHS but have got nowhere are literally noone cares. I'm therefore left in chronic pain and disfigured for the rest of my life. Another example is customer service. It just seems really poor everywhere you go and if you complain you don't get anywhere as noone gives a toss. I've noticed a real change in attitude since covid. For a long time people used covid as an excuse for poor healthcare and customer service. Thankfully, touch wood, covid is no longer a big problem yet the not giving a toss attitudes continues. I worked for the NHS around 25 years ago and the staff seemed to really care about their work and genuinely wanted to make the NHS better. I no longer work for the NHS but my feeling is that this is no longer the case. AIBU to feel this way?

I know what you mean. I had to have physio 2 years ago as i had a bad knee injury. Her attitude stank.

I know what you mean.

I hear you

I am sorry OP. I know how you feel.

I also feel very guilty all the time, because I do care, but don't always go the extra mile as I know I should. I am burned out. Not a reason not to care, I know. Just saying that perhaps is not that people don't care in the literal sense, but that the world is in such a way, that most people can't care anymore. Not sure if this will make sense....or help.

Yep I’ve noticed this. It does seem to be one of lockdowns leftovers 🤷🏼‍♀️

@TwinklyFawn that's dreadfull. I'm sorry this happened to you. It never used to this way. Things have definitely changed and for the worse.

I absolutely understand. I felt the same after speaking to a GP recently. It was only when I spoke to an alternative practitioner and saw how shocked she was at the 'care' I received that I realised I feel worthless in the eyes of the NHS. I don't expect them to care anymore. The alternative practitioner, thankfully, does.

It's such a sad state of affairs.

During covid vast amounts of people were paid to not work. An entire generation through the first working years of their life saw that people didn't work and got paid. Further they're seeing family work from home (not all of them) taking the michael and thinking they want some of it.

Productivity and standards are in the gutter. Everyone has an excuse. See any thread on here about people wearing dressing gowns on the school run. Something totally unacceptable a few years ago..

@Lua I know what you mean. I'm nearly 50 and when I was younger, in the 80s and 90s, there was a real sense of hope and people wanting to do their best and go the extra mile. This doesn't seem to be the case any more. I think a lot of people think 'what's the point?'. If others around them dont care, why should they? Times have changed so much and not for the better in my opinion.

I agree with the previous poster who said that it's a 'lockdown leftover '. People often say that it brought out the best in people, but I disagree,as I thought it brought out the worst in so many people. It was a heaven-sent excuse for so many businesses to be lazy and give bad service, secure in the knowledge that they could trot out the line 'It's because of COVID'. Although it's not as bad now,5 years on,there are still remnants of it here and there,e.g. certain shops never re- opening their changing rooms. The NHS turned into a National Covid Service. They weren't interested if you had anything else wrong with you.
