Where to spend a night on my own?

I need a break from being a mum and wife. Feel so drained and just want to run away from it all.

Where would you go if you could,, and what would you do?

24 hours from 10am on a Saturday?

Somewhere quiet with no other children. Nice gardens. Good food.

Shoxfordian · 22/05/2025 14:00

I would go to a spa hotel with early check-in, adult only, and a good book or two

UsernameShmusername2024 · 22/05/2025 14:00

What are of the country do you live in? Depends on that as I wouldn't want to spend ages travelling for 1 night. But as a general suggestion, a nice spa hotel would be my choice for that sort of night. Although I did actually go to the travelodge 10 mins down the road from us when my kids were littler!!

Enrichetta · 22/05/2025 14:00

Where are you based?

personally I’d go out to dinner with a friend and then ballet, opera or theatre.

it’s what kept me going when mine were little.

TheFoz · 22/05/2025 14:03

I’m doing this next month. Getting the train to The Big City and going to a play, I’ll go for a nice dinner and have a few drinks. Night in the hotel then the next day my husband will meet me and we are going to a concert. I might do some shopping. But lots of reading and sleeping and not much use of the phone is the plan.

Blueberrycake12 · 22/05/2025 14:05

I live jut outside of London.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I could look into nearby spa places. Are there children there?! 😂

It depends on where you are and what you like but I guess the general approach is to do what you are longing to do but not able to do because of children.
I would want uninterrupted sleep, lay in, slow mooching around some sort of historical place with eating what I want and when I want the whole day.

Sounds heavenly. It's important that you have that night at the hotel to yourself! I would always have my husband with me and that's where I feel I've gone wrong. You start losing your identity and independence.

I wish I had done this when mine were little although no doubt DH would have disappeared with something important to do about ten minutes before I was due to leave

This all sounds very good too!

So unfair! I hope you're ok now!

Somewhere surrounded by green with a decent spa and outdoor pool.

Blueberrycake12 · 22/05/2025 14:12

Does anyone recommend a good spa in the Hertfordshire area please?

If you’re just outside London why not go into London?

Because I feel like I wont be able to relax there. I'm not ruling it out though. I just think a spa in the sticks would be better for me right now.

Try Hanbury Manor

Walkacrossthesand · 22/05/2025 14:26

Champneys have Tring in Hertfordshire I think, they do overnight spa breaks

plantsnpants · 22/05/2025 14:26

In Alsager so a short train ride - the Manor House spa hotel is amazing

Blueberrycake12 · 22/05/2025 14:37

Wow, thank you all so much. I'm feeling much more positive already. There is a light!

Champneys is lovely, although I've not been to Tring.

WitheringHighs · 22/05/2025 14:45

I have stayed in small bnbs and glamping type paces for exactly this reason. No WiFi, long walks alone, books and drawing stuff and beautiful views. Have a wonderful day off OP xx

Country house hotel, variety of good books, excellent Resto.
Am not a huge fan of spa treatments myself but if they relax you absolutely go for it. Swimming pool definitely.
Let us know hat you decorate and report back!
